Poor Performance with NVIDIA 4090

Recommended Posts

Cutting corners rarily results in cutting edge performance.  Com'on don't strangle your gcard and give the respect it deserves: a state of the art 1000w or greater PSU, and note that PSU headroom is a good thing.

Im intrigued to see the official statement from Nvidia stating that you can run a 4090 with three power connectors instead of 4 because the fourth is to stabilize overclocking.

11900k ( not the best chip around) with a 4090 .... for 1080p ?

hmm i personally wouldn't have done it but ok ..

Whilst I have a potato compared to the OP I would start with the simple things first......

Turn down ALL settings to low - does the FPS increase?  If so then its likely your settings causing the problem, ie too high over optimistic.

If your FPS doesn't increase with every setting turned down low its likely to be something else.....

I typically drop from 60 down to 40 FPS at a major airport with heavy traffic with my 3090, which is double what you are getting, so yeah something is not right. Plus I am running a higher 3840x1600 resolution.

I see several of the 'I told you so's' are out in force. Give the guy a break and try to help or say nothing. So many jealous people on here who have it in the RTX 4090.

An 11900k is not at all causing him to be CPU bound as someone wrongly said. It's likely his PSU causing the issue.

Have you turned on the frame generator option?

My guess is the choke point as others have stated is the PSU....850 watts with that card isn't going to cut it.

Greetings from KPDX!

I have a 2080ti and 8086K (natural clock to 5.0ghz) and I am getting 30 locked (but smooth) fps pretty much everywhere running DX11 and DLSS set to Quality. LOD and TLOD are both set to 100. I have experimented going higher but with a 4k gsync monitor...I hardly notice.

For the OP:

Have you considered not only the Power unit but turning all of your traffic down to 50%? Including cars, workers, IFR/VFR (if using FSLTL) etc. Does switching to DX11 and still using DLSS Quality mode make a difference?

I find that heavy traffic really binds up my CPU.

I thought that is where it was most noticeable?

I’m surprised the OP is running the the CPU @ 3.5Mhz. Crank that baby up. I run my 10900k @ 5.2 - 5.3Mhz. Runs like a dream.  Curious on what he figures out.

I do agree here.  And some people are commenting about 1080P.  He's not running 1080p lol.  what is that res anyway....3840x1080 - double HD or something.  Probably like somewhere between 1440p and 4k.

It's a hefty rig for sure.  Something is amiss though.
