I have found that Asobo items in the One Store? part of MSFS will delete & reinstall via Content Manager.

However items in Community won't & need to be taken out via File Manager.

& I have had some Asobo deleted items, [747 I think], reappear after an MSFS Update.

Me too. But the 747 was an intrinsic part of another feature, I forget which one, but I wanted it so I had to have the 747 back.That is the only occasion that anything was reinstalled.

If you shut down the computer with MSFS still booted up, you will get an option to use safe mode the next boot up of MSFS. It will then ignore everything non absolutely essential in official and everything in Community and will boot up really fast.

This is the big advantage of uninstalling stuff.

Storage is very inexpensive now (1 TB Intel M.2 SSD $70 or 6TB Seagate SATA for $135) so why bother?  I currently have 15 TB spread across five drives and do not worry about space.  

Am I missing something?

I always get the impression the need to do this tends to be a bit more psychological than practical. Especially if it's all on an SSD.

I did this for a while but don't bother with it anymore. As you say it was probably psychological. I have plenty of space available.

There's also the fact that I have addon linker, which kind of kills the need to actually delete stuff.

Just a hunch, but perhaps when if Asobo adds new missions in an update, aircraft that are required for these missions might also be re-installed.

Yup, exactly the same happened to me too!

Has anyone had any success running msfs from a compressed drive or able to comment on whether it is a worthwhile or feasible option to save disk space?

I knew 2 different IT pros that told me never to compress a drive.

Thanks Bob.  I guess that doesn't sound like a great idea then, though I did run FSX on a compressed drive for many years without any issues.

We also have enough problems with MSFS at times without adding another to the list.
