DX11 vs DX12

Featured Replies

What FPS difference do you see between DX11 and DX12?

Back when SU10 launched, I noted that DX12 wasn’t noticeably better than DX11 but ran with it. I just got a 4090 and did some more testing (with my 5800x3D). I actually get 5-10FPS less using DX12 with 4K Ultra and LOD 300 or 400 (TAA).  Drone view goes from around 86FPS to 78FPS (using LOD 300) with the Kodiak on the runway.

Am I alone in seeing FPS go down with DX12 now?

Same here. In SU10 I noticed a slight gain in FPS but went back to DX11 for stability's sake. Image quality seemed roughly the same, as was *smoothness*.

I gave DX12 another whirl after SU11 (with identical settings) but had noticeable FPS loss and more stutters, so quickly went back to DX11. I don't have a high end system so don't get any real benefit of the fancier GFX options.

I have 2 or 3 FPS more with DX11 but DX12 is smoother (less stutters), so that's what I'm using.

Every time I give DX12 a whirl I find I get stutters whereas my game play is very smooth with DX11.

I heard Steve is bring out a DX12 fixer. 😁

DX12 with my 1080 Ti is a no-go.  It increases vram usage a lot.  On 11 I don't tyically run out of vram...  on dx12 it happened immediately at FlyTampa's KBOS.

You're probably not from the FSX times if you don't know who Steve is. Check here:

As a 4090 owner any advice on which one I should be using? I have a 5900x CPU. I have experienced stuttering on DX12 but not sure if that’s a broader issue or not

It's not a choice between DX11 and DX12 in the setting. It's a choice between DX11 and DX12 Beta. It definitely reminds me of something that was called DX10 Preview.

From the ground up and I'm a monkeys uncle.

Dx12 for me since first trying it out when available. So smooth it's been almost ridiculous. Granted, I haven't maxed everything out but I am very content with the settings as it absolutely *murders* everything else when it comes to looks and smoothness. I've been thinking about trying Dx11 again, but I fear I'll jinx it.. 😉

FPS roughly the same here, but DX12 feels considerably smoother. BUT, and that is a huge BUT, I get ground texture issues with DX12 on each and every airport. Bummer, so still no DX12 for me due to this bug...

Would be interested in your FPS in both cases.

I think as a 4090 owner, you have the luxury of doubling your FPS with frame generation, which requires DX12. So even though DX12 offers less FPS, after you double it, you’re way ahead of DX11.

Locked from NCP at 30 in both cases i believe.

Thank God they seem to have fixed it for Nvidia cards with one of the latest drivers. I had it with SU10 but don't see those ground texture issues for some time now.

I see you have an AMD card, are you using the latest driver for it?
