I have a public sector job which pays quite well for not doing very much (we are about to strike for more pay). I fly when I should be working as my computer then registers as being 'active' so my employer can show that I am giving value for money as a public servant.

Only some of that is true. 

 

 

It's important to introduce a healthy dose of versatility to your life. I do it this way: once I'm on autopilot, I use the other PC for a quick one on "Syberia the world before" and/or "DeraillValley". Also, while the things are loading, an even quicker one on a Real racing 3 on the phone, just not to waste any time.

I understand what you're saying. Few weeks ago I opened sick leave, but few days ago I got sick for real!!! Don't you hate it when sickness spoils your sick leave!?!?

You may be sitting in your basement, bedroom or study, but while simming, you are not in your basement, bedroom or study.

But you need a healthy balance in life.  Exercise

Sure!  I use MSFS nearly daily for this purpose as it's so engaging mentally for me, especially since APLv2 scores all my flights, than I truly can detach.  Plus, I'm not playing golf much now which was my other way to tune out of reality.  I highly recommend detaching from reality whenever possible as Homo Insipiens, as clever as we are, doesn't score well on sustainability and long term vision as we are clearly hell bent on unrestricted growth and consumption at an ever increasing pace, not unlike metastatic cancer which grows out of control until it takes out the host, polluting its way to the bitter end.  This is hard to fathom but in the last 20 years global population has gone up by nearly 2 billion people.  In fact, in a lousy 100y population has gone up by some 6B people.  Fortunately, at least for right now, for westerners the vast majority of that growth was in low-consuming 3rd world countries.  But we're all feeling it more and more as migrations of populations affected by climate change, famine, political turmoil and more are filtering in to western countries at an ever-increasing pace.   We see our power grids starting to stress now and this is just the beginning.  There is so much more but the mods will have a hard time with this much reality and are probably already hovering to consider taking this thread down.  

 

In the great scheme of life MSFS is totally unimportant, unless you are addicted to it.

Delete soccer and replace with American football. Particularly college football. And I agree. 😉

Did Bertrand Russell really say "soccer" or did he say "football"?  Or did the British used to say "soccer" as well?

What impact will MSFS's duplicate / mirror real world environment have on the gaming industry at large?  Seems that many games could use such a playing field which would incude the world weather system.  Even competitor XP could benefit if they could pay Microsoft for it.

Just wondering what doors could be opened with MSFS's awesome tech.

No. You are exactly right. The literal quote was football, by which Russell meant what Americans call soccer.
