Captain dies during takeoff...

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

When someone loses consciousness, every second counts.  He should have had paramedics meet him at the taxiway.  It might not have mattered, but to waste time going to the gate was crappy.

Listen again. The F.O. KNEW the Captain was lost. There was no hurry. Terrible nevertheless.

Although, the carrier said in a statement,

“Despite heroic efforts by those on board and first responders on the ground, our colleague passed away at the hospital. We’re deeply saddened and are doing all we can to support his family and our colleagues at this time.”

Another good reason why we have two pilots in the cockpit of airliners rather than just one.

They would say that. It's not a good look to have pilots die at the controls. Having said that, I've grown a lot more cynical in the past couple of years.

Also, a good reason why there should be tillers on both sides of the cockpit.

You actually don't need two. You get by with rudder pedal steering and differential braking. It's not pretty, but you can do it. We forced new guys to do it in the USAF so that they have a feel for it just in case.

This is probably nothing more than a technicality of where the person was actually declared deceased...  Chances are hew was officially declared dead by a physician at the hospital hence the wording being accurate. It doesn't mean they weren't already dead when they got there though...

Very sad and +1 for 2 pilots for these unlikely but potential scenarios

Saying "was pronounced dead at the hospital" would be accurate. Saying "passed away at the hospital" implies that he was still alive when removed from the aircraft. As a result, media reports are saying that he "died later". This all puts the focus on why the first officer decided not to have him removed immediately at the taxiway.

A person can still be revived within a half-hour window, but only if chest compression is begun quickly and maintained until relieved by first responder personnel who themselves will maintain continuous chest compression until pronounced dead by a physician.

At a previous airline we had a training captain have a stroke on approach into EGKK around 10000 feet.

The  f/o was still in training and was doing her final line training sector, with the training skipper who had the stroke.

She was then due her final line Check with an examier (4 sectors) the very next day.

Needless to say she landed into EGKK with the incap captain with no issues or drama, and then did minimim rest and the following day did her final line check passing with flying colours.

Not all heros wear capes. A good egg.

We also had a very experienced captain who had a heart attack and died while doing is OPC in the sim once,  better on the ground than in the air I guess. He was a lovely man too.
