Flyingiron Spitfire L.F Mk IXc update 1.3.0

So now I have tried it and it works - setup the throttle axis on the t/master as the brakes - (No brakes on rudder pedals)

control speed - by touching the brakes - and use the rudder pedals left and right to steer at the same time

Needs some practice - but it does work - note one cannot use the brake on the stick as described by Winkle

Hi jaytee73, does your new binded brake axis variably control the hand brake lever in the sim?

I just quickly tried it on my sim with a brake on/off button not an axis. Was short on time. Not suitable.  Also the brake pressure gauge showing the differential brake pressure when rudder is applied along with brake input was not working properly either as both brakes were eventually being applied not just the one side. Needs further investigation  Maybe a limitation of MSFS, as the IL-2 Spitfire sim works much better in this aspect.

Its a tricky beast on the ground for sure even without this issue. Maybe easiest just to cheat and use toe brakes like the documentation suggests, but its not as per the real Spitfire.

At first - as I intimated - I tried the brake on the stick in the manner you first described - but it was either on or off -

ie in the case of the FI Spit - just like a hand brake - but it gave me the idea of a gradual movement - ie somewhere

in between - On and Off - and that would need an axis - so instead of using the Centre slide on the ThrustMaster stick (16000)

as a throttle - I bound it as a brake - ie sliding the button up and down works just as if I was pressing brake pedals in a progressive manner

This means that with careful application in conjunction with the rudder pedals and the actual throttle - steering becomes a tighter circle

For me by far the best option, here and in DCS, is to use an on/off button because if you press it it takes some time for the stick brake lever to move along full course.

Just use slight touches here&there to give "hints of braking" 🙂 while using the rudder in the direction you want to turn.

You can help it with smal burts of throttle.

Even though it works, it's uncomparably inferior to DCS World or IL-2 Great Battles though 😕 MFS ground physics still need some fine tuning...

One issue I noticed today while flying online over Duxford with a mate is that the livery of his updated Spit changed when we lost track of each other while working on formation flying.  When we reestablished visual contact and reassembled our formation, his livery had changed.

To me, it seems some developers aircraft have this issue while other do not.

This can plainly be seen here. (Second one is best. WIP)

Where can I get this update @Nyxx?  I dont see it on the Flying Iron site or the Marketplace?

Cheers

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

It's on the FlyingIron site. You need to login and navigate to your accounts download section.

I would love to hear Flying Irons' latest post update opinion on their recommended braking setup compared to the real aircraft and the other Spit versions available in  IL-2 and DCS.

Also the very talented SandyR on the Authentikit discord site has made this script to solve the issue properly in MSFS. (Analogue handbrake and analogue rudder combination issue). Needs full version of FSUIPC7.

https://download.authentikit.org/filebase/index.php?file/27-differential-braking-for-the-spitfire/

I think without these controls mapped properly it is very easy to overcontrol on the diff braking.

Think I might uninstall this for now. I have the same uncontrollable ground handling with the Savage Carbon which was done by the same person. Whatever I do it will not behave and I don't want to set up a new hardware config just for this addon. For now, I'll stick to the P-38 if I want to fly something of this vintage.

Flying again the Spit' after quite a bit flying the Guimbal is a nightmare 😄

A slight annoyance, the  binding of the rudder trim to my joystick (WH, button 8 & 10) doesn't work anymore. Anybody having the same problem ?

FSUIPC. create profiles for all sorts and it remembers the settings.

Thanks Ron but no thanks. The MSFS controls options UI is good enough for me as I keep my setup as lean as possible on my old computer.

I think I found the issue. The rudder trim wheel in the cockpit moves now extremely slowly, the rotation is almost imperceptible, but the rudder trim seems to work normally. It does not help the pre-take off setting though.

- New prop drag/disc braking logic
- Improved elevator and rudder trim response for keybinds, mouse drag & mouse wheel
- Increased torque & tuned aileron trim effectiveness to match
- Removed canopy G-force slide
- Fixed tablet workshop wear and tear timing
- Fixed bug where GPS & Autopilot drew power when invisible/unused
- Fixed startup fire when magnetos are off
- Fixed ground effect inbalance issue

OK, much more controllable on the ground for me now.

Well,

I acknowledge FliyingIron's care with updates, fixes, new features, but honestly the Spitfire still leaves a LOT to be desied.

Ground handling IMO got even stranger than before, that overdone torque on roll that we can try to compensate for using the iPad is totally out of sync with official real aircraft flight test data and reports, while the effects on sideslip are tame, etc....

It's difficult for someone who has used DCS or IL-2 (and even a freeware Spitfire for XP12) to be able to feel ok with this one 😞

Surely not FlyingIron's fault, MFS FM is still too arcadish in most aspects, although I tend to use MFS a lot more than any other sim these days specially thanks to the PMDG 737 and the Fenix A320.
