60 second pause is back, begging for help.

I don't have as much time so I'll just say this in one final attempt to maybe help get you thinking more clearly here...

There are only 3 possibilities here...It either has to be a hardware issue, a software issue, or an incompatibility between the two. There are no other possibilities.

... and there are quicker ways to figure out which of these it actually is, other than your current path. This is all I'm saying.

But, obviously, saving time is not your priority right now.

I spent many years doing just what you're doing now so that I could learn as much as possible, so I understand the mindset.

So...enjoy solving the puzzle then!

The 3 possibilities sounds logical.  And logic puzzles give me a great deal of pleasure.  This is a hobby after all right?  Thanks and have a nice day.

I'm using a digital stopwatch.  It pauses every 60 seconds for 1/2 a second, it's extremely precise.  It's like something is making a call out every minute.  It was solved by force disabling steamoverlay.  But now that pause is back.

I don't use any desktop screensavers, never have.

I also never fly missions.

I fortunately don't have that four second pause but I did have that way back in the FSX days.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I appreciate it.

Try running task manager and observing what is happening while this is going on. If you click at the top of the process list where it says CPU, then the process with the highest CPU utilization will show up at the top. See if you can see a process grabbing the CPU when the pause happens. If you don't see anything, try clicking either Disk or Network next. Whatever is causing the pause should be tying up one of those resources or at least use more of them when it is happening.

Holy Jack, I'm so sorry for you, such a shi..y drama with this issue, I can't imagine what it's supposed to be, so my post can't be of any help. I've read parts of the thread in the other forum and this problem seems to exist for sure, so I wouldn't be sure to rebuild the whole PC all over again..

And belive me i know what that means, fight against a PC, allmost unbelievable what can happen with such a machine. A friend of mine once said the PC is a "world of its own" and I think he was right.

I wish you that you get the matter under control without damaging your soul..😏

Hi MD and thanks for your help, I appreciate it.  I tried exactly what you describe and last July this is how I caught the steamoverlay.exe, it was popping up at that interval.  But try as I might with what you describe using Process, Disk, and Network I can't see anything either because it comes and goes too fast, 1/2 second is fast.  I even tried using my GoPro to video it and couldn't see anything obvious.  It's puzzling but as I said before, it would seem to me the tools for troubleshooting this just aren't there or I'm not aware of any.

Crud. If I still lived in Norcross, I'd take a ride over and give you a hand.

Thanks MD, and I'd pay for your gas, buy you lunch, and make it worth your effort.  It's people like you who give me hope for humanity and I appreciate you thinking of helping.  I'm in Newnan, where are you now?

I live in Maryland now. I lived in GA from 1994 to 1999. Took my PPL lessons at KLZU.

Very good!  I've been here since 1991, all I miss is snow though.  If we don't see any this will be six consecutive years of no snow.  When I first moved here we'd get blizzards.  I think it's the solar max/min 11 year cycle.

Jack, I'll post these as I find them. No need to reply, but I'd hate to see something that might just help, and not pass it on. This one is to do with the auto-save function when doing bush flights:

Hi Paul. That's funny, I posted this same link here earlier today.  But I did try that and do not have the autosave feature running.  But I always appreciate your help, always.

Hi Jack

I can't see anyone mentioning this and its probably rubbish but it might be worth looking in task schduler to see if any program is set to run every 60 seconds. Bit of an off chance but i remember stopping somethng similar many years and PC's ago and it was Adobe Update running every minute or so. Not saying its adobe this time but could be some bit of software.

Cheers

Hi Si, yes sir, I already did this.  Adobe Update has been shut down for a while.  I agree, I've been looking for whatever is calling whatever every 60 seconds.

What kind of analysis has been done on the Steam Overlay?  Obviously since it caused the original problem then it is the key to finding the solution.

What happens if you renable it?

Remember it holds the answer to a solution so a deep dive is necessary.
