February 13, 20233 yr So... The latest "best" LOD settings for SU11 is 200 / 200 when checking best graphics settings on the flight simulator blog. Seems to be quite high (espec. for object LOD). Any suggestions?

Seems to be quite high (espec. for object LOD). Any suggestions? Obviously it depends on the spec of your computer, but it seems terrain LOD is the main stealer of performance. I am currently running terrain at 200, and object LOD at 300, and I am happy with that at 4k, although that still doesn't stop the yellow taxiway signs from popping in, but they seem to be immune to any LOD setting. This is with a 3080Ti at 4k Ultra, with DLSS balanced (and an upgrade to a 13900k, which helped more than I expected). It generally holds 60 fps unless it gets complex at big airports etc., and no noticeable issues with bad terrain or objects. I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's. Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Yes, the only reason I can go to 300 on the object LOD is because I run DLSS and suffer the slight blurryness of the panels, but it seems to drop my GPU utilisation down by about 25-30%, giving me a bit of extra margin. No topping out with the CPU now either since a quick swap to a 13900. That is at 90% most of the time though, so I am close to the limits for sure. You use TAA with frame generation don't you on your 4xxx series? I just saw prices at £1,200 for a decent make 4080 - very tempting! February 13, 20233 yr I use 100 at major airports with complex airliners, 300 for GA in the middle of nowhere, and 200 for anything in between. This is a conservative approach and works well on my system. I expect I could push further once I upgrade my CPU. Let's see what the new 7950X3D brings. I was going to swap out my 7950X for the 3D, but now I am 50/50. I can not see much point. Edited February 13, 20233 yr by Ianrivaldosmith
February 13, 20233 yr 1200 BP for one computer component is considered as 'good price'.... where do we go ? 🙂 Artur

Debating whether it will be worth it to swap out when the XD chips drop. With frame generation in 2D I can run with everything maxed and lots of traffic, LOD 400 and it's perfect, but still in VR things can get a tiny bit sluggish with everything maxed in the most demanding of settings, although overall it's still pretty darn good. I drop LOD to 300 for VR. Edited February 13, 20233 yr by do_denver2

February 13, 20233 yr Am I right in thinking that the higher the LOD the less work the CPU has to do but the more the GPU has to do? Where as the lower the LOD its the other way round?
