I can't wait for the EFB to be released so every new PMDG thread can stop derailing into a "I WANT AN EFB" or "WHERE IS THE EFB" topic.

Agree!

The FMC in the 737 calculates takeoff and landing speeds already. I use Avliasoft EFB for all my charts, so that is something I would have no use for.

It doesn't caluclate assumed temp derated take offs including shortened runway take offs.

It's the only thing I want in an EFB. Other people may have other reasons for it but the FMC doesn't do these performance calculations.

Not for intersection departures it doesn't.  Like many I prefer the efb regardless.  I recognize you may not have a need for an efb.  But it's odd to me that you cannot understand why others have the desire.

Well I had one in the Fenix, and all I used was things that I can also do in the 737.

Did you just make  that up?

No. I made an educated guess based upon my:

* 15 years as an AIR Traffic Controller

* 20+ years as an active PP with SELVFR rating

* 40+ years as a flight simulator hobbiest that also follows aviation topics intently.

Thats how

You can put a temp derate in the FMC as well as the fixed derates. It doesn't to intersection takeoffs, but I never do those anyway. Runway behind me is useless. 😉

I got you beat by over 20 years as a PPL, and tied as a simmer and 40 years  attending AOPA safety meetings.

I know you can but in order to get the correct assumed temp to enter into the CDU I need a performance calculator which will be in the EFB. That's the point.

Well Ok then. So what’s your point?  You asked how I came up with that estimate. I told you. Since you are so credentialed you should have no difficulty in accepting that aviation thrives in technology and innovation. PMDG saw that and added EFBs to their flagship P3d fleet, so how is now different?

I know all about it Bob but thank you anyway. I can't afford yet another subscription and I don't care for their pricing structure either.

Most exciting bit for me from this latest update: "And of course- a bunch of us are spending most of our time on the 777 production floor, which is also very exciting.

Wish they'd hurry up and release at least some preview shots/videos of the 777 soon.

Oh i had so much fun reading through this thread. Thank you for that.

For the guys who are flying the 737-700 there is a great little app in the appstore called "TOPER free" it calculates intersection takeoffs, assumed temperature and derated takeoffs as well as takes into account wind, air pressure and temperatures, anti ice and packs. Only drawback is that its only for the 700.

I am using it ever since and it serves me extremely well. You might want to give it a try.

Happy landings!

The only intersection departure's I have ever done where in GA aircraft, don't need an EFB for that.
