Just Flight Baron Released

Nice post Ryan !

I have spent most of the day setting up my alpha and bravo to control everything. Most switches are done through MS2020 although I have used Spad to fine tune a few things. The prop feather was one and prop sync etc. I'm gonna have some fun in this one .😁

Anyone know how to get the Mixture Axis to work with FSUIPC on this one? I have tried various options as listed in the manual but the handles do not move. I did notice that the regular mixture axis (for my other twins) worked but the handles do not move. Took her out for a short hop and when I got her packed I pulled the mixture axis all the way to cut-off and both engines shut down as normal. Just rather weird I can't get those handles to move. By the way, she fly's like an eagle, very nice..

I am willing to bet you are trying to set up the turbo ver. It works fine with the non-turbo version. The same situation exists with the Bonanza.

I use Spad for my controls but and have the same problem. When that did not work I tried FSUIPC and found that did not work either. I see mention of this at the JustFlight forums, but the responses have not been helpful.

This problem exists for the axes for the right side cowl flaps on both versions of the Baron.

I suspect that some folks can get around the problems with Spad. Unfortunately for me, I have no idea how to use it to setup anything but the standard axes.

I hope the developers do a fix.

I set up the cowl flaps in ms2020. And most other switches as well. I have had to set up the prop lever and feather in spad as well as prop sync. I'm still working on the fuel pumps etc. But I've nearly got it nailed 👍. I use the alpha and bravo.

How do I learn to do this? I only know how to do standard axes and copy and install online snippets. Also, were you able to set mixtures for the turbo version?

Thanks in advance.

PS. I have tried learning Spad through the manual, but most of it is like Greek to me.

That's fine mate. It is a head..fu..K at times. I'm busy atm but I'll try to post my settings tomorrow.

I suspect the devs can't easily do a fix because the Mixture system in the Black Square turbo aircraft is a hack to work around the fact that MSFS just can't handle turbo engines.

Behind the scenes what's actually happening is that the a real mixture control is  disconnected from the cockpit lever and then constantly leaned as you climbed to maintain engine performance and when you move the mixture control in the cockpit you are actually tweaking that hidden mixture control.

If you connect a physical control to the real mixture control then all the careful leaning of the mixture to mimic the turbo system gets overridden and the engines go berserk.

It's very far from an ideal solution but until Asobo actually fix the underlying engine modelling I'm not sure what else they can do.

RT you are absolutely correct, I was using the Turbo version. For now, I think I am going to just go back to the regular Mixture Axis and forgo the visual effect of the handles. If I do come up with an alternative I will definitely post the solution.

So in the turbo Bonanza and Baron basically don’t touch the mixture as you climb to avoid messing up their simulation workaround?  What about on the ground, do you still need to lean a turbo engine for taxi?

Just a reminder to those of us that also purchased the Bonanza. Make sure you go into your previous orders and "download/activation details" and get your 25% off discount code for the Baron.

Excited to take this one for a spin!

I found out too late.

I was wondering why there was no rebate for the Baron as I all ready owned the Bonanza.

Found out afterwards, that I had to go to my Bonanza order to obtain a rebate for the Baron.

I find this way to be quite cumberstone - or is it just me ?

Wanted to add another finding with the turbo flight model I noticed:

I've noticed what appears to be an excessive climb rate of 2,500-3,000+fpm which I maintained to around 8,000ft (I could have kept going but didn't bother)...the real turbo maxes at around 1,700fpm so this feels like a rocket ship of sorts.

...and I'm still having issues with the constant slip/uncoordinated flight. You just can't center the ball without creating a tendency to roll (even in level flight).

Yes to prevent fouling as usual.

Cumbersome even 🙂

It's not a method that has caused too much hassle up until now to be honest and the majority of the sales for the Baron are from people using their codes.  Remember you do get notification of the code and the actual code delivered into your account at the point of the original purchase of the Bonanza. And we've tried to mention it many times across all the marketing elements as we've approached the release of the Baron.

If you send me a direct message I can sort something out for you to compensate for missing out on this deal. Happy to do that if it helps.

What settings?

On the ABS forum I found this:

To summarize what I've been seeing:

CLIMB:

Mixture: Full Rich until reaching cruise (Per the book).

Power: 36" / 2400 RPM

Speed: 130 Kts

CRUISE:

Mixture: 75F Rich of Peak TIT

Power: 30" / 2200 RPM

Yes, I believe my climb was either this or very close to it (i.e. 35/25) but I will try again. If I did not pull up to 2500+fpm then my speed would go MUCH higher than the 130kias.

This is the turbo version im referring to btw. have not tested the regular yet.
