April 30, 20233 yr Hi Guys, I am wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction. On startup some days ago, I received the mandatory download requirement which I was expecting as part of the WU 13 Oceania and Antarctica. The mandatory update completed successfully and the game then started with the WU 13 splash screen replacing the WU 12 NZ update splash screen. Once the game started I checked the marketplace and there was the ATR. I then went to the Content Manager area to download and install the WU13 but nothing was there. I have since shutdown and re started the PC (not just the game) several times and still nothing to suggest I have anything to download in the Content Manager. This led me to think that maybe just the mandatory update was all that was required for this World Update to be incorporated even if that was different to every other update. Even so, I really thought we were given a choice as to whether we wanted to download the WU's or not. There are several I have chosen not to download because they are areas where I am unlikely to fly and I need to conserve disk space. Further simple observations including the absence of any of the discovery flights, landing challenges or bush trips seems to suggest I do not have the WU13 incorporated and there is no option to download it in Content Manager. Notes: My MSFS is Steam There is no opportunity to 'download' the update through Steam which is usually only used for Mandatory updates. I have looked at the Steam notice which details the WU13 content and can confirm I do not have any of the landing , discovery or bush trip flights. I have checked I have Online Functionality and Bing Data World Graphics enabled. I have a good stable internet connection I have searched the Content's Manager for 'World Update' which returned 12 WU's but is missing the WU13 and no 'pending' download is available. I have renamed the Community folder just in case content in there had some affect on the Content Managers ability to trigger the Oceania and Antarctica update. Unlikely and never had to do that before, but you can see I'm getting desperate for a solution here! So, I suspect I am missing something fundamental and will kick myself for bothering everyone when I find out what it is, but in the meantime any suggestions are most welcome. May 1, 20233 yr I look forward to getting this question over and over again. 13 Worldupdates down and still going on. Now I know why many older pilots give up their licenses in real life when they are in their 60's and their memory starts to get fuzzy...

A combined marketplace / content manager would have been good and would have stopped a lot of this confusion I think. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). May 1, 20233 yr I agree it is confusing. Sometimes it is in Content Manager, sometimes in Market Place, sometimes in my library files at the MS Store. I look at each place now after each upgrade.

I don't speak of any simmer, of course, as we are are all clear and sharp minded but of the Microsoft employee who earns his or bread complicating things which could be simpler. May 1, 20233 yr All new products need to be purchased in the Market Place. All existing products need to be managed in the Content Manager. Two different things as I look at it. 🙂

Now I know why many older pilots give up their licenses in real life when they are in their 60's and their memory starts to get fuzzy... Hmmm. I assume that is pointed at me since I am the OP. A bit ageist don't you think @Farlis ? I am currently the National Operations Manager for a large franchise and it might surprise you to learn that I have more complex things in my daily life to deal with than than MSFS's market place structures which I think many will agree could be improved. Here's an idea. If it is essential that mandatory update be triggered just so we can get a new WU splash screen, then how about putting a bit more information on it like (Go to the Market Place to Download). And then maybe the Market place could be better structured so the WU that triggered such an important mandatory update is front and centre without having to search for it. The concept here is to deliver a product to a wide audience, ie from the very experience simmers to the brand new simmers. We know lots of people get 'fuzzy' about the difference between SU's and WU's and the different ways they are downloaded especially when Steam users are so used to updates going on in the background and not requiring the programme to be running, but that's another issue! The point is that making discriminatory and derogatory remarks about age is unhelpful when any confusion in this process is entirely at the feet of MSFS who could do some very simple communication things to makes it a lot easier for everyone. The point stands. The average flightsimmer is male and way above 50. We have been over the update process of World Updates now 13 times. They come out every 2-3 months. The update process for them was the same from the start. And yet everytime there are people showing up here who forgot how it works. It's the same steps every time, it is not rocket science to remember how it works. Yet without fail people like you show up after every update and are confused. The evidence is pretty clear to me. It has to do with the age of the average flightsimmer and their dwindling mental capacities to remember stuff. Am I being ageist? word not allowed straight I am. I look forward to getting forgetful myself in 20 years and not being able to remember steps that I have done repeatedly and then blame it on the manufacturer who has not made this senior proof. 😉 Edited May 1, 20233 yr by Farlis
May 2, 20233 yr 2 hours ago, Lord Farringdon said: The concept here is to deliver a product to a wide audience, ie from the very experience simmers to the brand new simmers. In fact, the concept is to deliver the mandatory Simulator Updates by designing the simulator so that when an update is released, no users can avoid it, or forget it, as the simulator will not start until the update has been applied. Despite that, every time that there is a mandatory simulator update, where the only input from the user is one click of the mouse, we can read of those for whom even that does not go well. As has very often been written in these forums, not every user wants or needs to have the World Updates, which are not necessary to allow the simulator to be up to date. Therefore, Microsoft uses the very simple concept of making them optional. Those who do not want them, do nothing and do not get them. Those who do, go through the simple process of "buying" them at the Marketplace, at no cost, but in doing that they add them to their in-game Profile and therefore once installed, they can be managed by the Profile\Content Manager. I am not and never have been, a National Operations Manager for any organisation and I am in my 70's, yet I have managed to grasp this fairly simple concept.
May 2, 20233 yr As the WUs include scenery updates which often include airports, they must be kept optional as users may prefer to use a different version of the same airport, e.g. payware.
