Way back I used to adjust my controller curves, but I find things much easier to control with flat setup. I use a Logitech Extreme3DPro joystick (elevator trim on the throttle axis), and two ChProducts twin engine throttle etc controllers (for four engine planes) and Ch Products rudder peals pro. The only issue I have with the Warrior after the update (I fly that in the sim a lot since it's what I rent) is that it weathervanes on the ground pretty bad when taxiing at low speed. A ten knot wind made it pretty hard to taxi. Not impossible, but lots of having to stop and lots of rudder. In the air I find it handles very well. My mod fixes the weathervane excess. June 22, 20232 yr One thing I defiantly noticed with this planes is that they feel very twitchy pitchwise. Especially on a approach, it seems to pitch up and down in increments rather than in a smooth manner. Hope that makes sense.
July 2, 20232 yr How is this mod coming along? I am also debating which JF bundle to get? should I just get the Turbo Arrow Package? or the combo or even the Warrior. 3 choices...I just need 1 plane.... Would love suggestions from IRL pilots (I intend to fly the plane only in VR with Quest 2) How I Evaluate Third Party Sim Addon Developers Refined P3Dv5.0 HF2 Settings Part1 (has MaddogX) and older thread Part 2 (has PMDG 747)
July 2, 20232 yr Actually got the Arrow III for now...I am doing courses on PE, and for now I want to go slow a little..Looks great in VR so far. Excited to see your mods Robert How I Evaluate Third Party Sim Addon Developers Refined P3Dv5.0 HF2 Settings Part1 (has MaddogX) and older thread Part 2 (has PMDG 747)

Hi Rob, this seems to be a common problem with a number of GA airplanes. Are you willing to give us some guidance on what needs to be adjusted to correct this behavior? That would come in handy for other aircraft.. 😉 Bert
July 3, 20232 yr Author Hi Bert, I have PM'd you with the mod to test. For general use in taming the weather vaning and exaggerated crosswind effect on the ground there are a number of parameters that can be adjusted. Under the FLIGHT_TUNING section of a given flight_model.cfg file are new parameters which add resistance to tire grip on the runway and also damping the tendency to over-react to cross winds. The examples below probably need to be re-adjusted depending on the size and weight of each individual aircraft but the example below seems to work well with small GA aircraft, but of course there will be room for improvement for each individual aircraft model: ground_crosswind_effect_max_speed = 200 ; feet per second, default is 80 ground_crosswind_effect_zero_speed = 1 ; feet per second, default is 5 ground_high_speed_steeringwheel_static_friction_scalar = 1.3 ground_high_speed_otherwheel_static_friction_scalar = 1.3 Cheers, Robert Edited July 3, 20232 yr by robert young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page

Hi Rob, thanks! Beta mod received and first test is good... more to try out.. I notice that you typically also increase YAW MOI values.. would that also help? Bert

Yaw inertia (MOI) values in yaw tend to need much higher values than either pitch or roll, but you have to be careful not to overdo it as then steering on the ground can become more sluggish to respond so as always it is a compromise between the two. It is an improvement 😉 Bert

This may be slightly off topic, but if you are looking for impeccable flight behavior, the Rob Young Bonanza mod still is top of the list IMHO. You can also combine the analog A36 (blacksquare) with Rob's flight model and get the best of both worlds. PM me if you need help with this.. Bert
July 6, 20232 yr It's been a few months since I flew the JF arrows, but they required a whole lot of rudder trim to fly straight. I used AAO which allows setting up as many trim buttons as you wish, without them interfering with each other. I have 2 fast trim buttons (the buttons repeat, i.e. keeps trimming more while pushed). And also slow trim buttons (in addition to the Slow box being checked in AAO, I also did not check the Repeat box). Unlike any with other plane, I had to hold one of the two fast trim buttons down a very long time to make the wings stay anywhere close to level. And then a quick fine tune touch it up with the slow trim buttons. With any other GA plane, this long time holding of the trim buttons was never necessary. If I did not do this, the Arrows would yaw away quite fast. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
