July 15, 20232 yr Experienced three good storms recently. One was a few weeks ago in Yellowstone National Park during a heli flight, which was quite atmospheric I'd also experienced two absolutely spectacular storms, but just spent 10 mins wracking my rapidly failing brain as to where they occurred when It finally hit me... they were in a different game😂 Way Of The Hunter. Holy hell, that game has the best storms ever in a piece of software!
August 28, 20232 yr That hurricane off the coast of Florida is providing lots of lightning and thunder and the ride is quite bumpy! 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
August 29, 20232 yr I only seem to see thunderstorms outside of METAR coverage, where it's pure meteoblue. Edited August 29, 20232 yr by Tuskin38
September 2, 20232 yr I've got lightning right now near VHHH, I can see it from parking. It's not over the airport but all around it. It's not mentioned on the METAR. Edited September 2, 20232 yr by Tuskin38

December 18, 20232 yr I'm flying right now over Namibia (between waypoints OTAVI and OMATA) and have big lightnings, while there's a very clear sky at FL410. I thought they adress that problem, but it still happened (although it's very rare). Alf DAGNON - Flight enthusiast VA France - AF024

If we start to see it in every storm planet wide then yeah somethings changed, but it simply isn't this way at all. It's one of those (many) items that I fear we won't see improvement now until we get our hands on MSFS2024, a shame when storms were great pre-SU7. So to quote myself it took MSFS2024s release and then 7 months later, but it looks like we've finally got Thunderstorms back....albeit with some caveats; SU3 Beta non-METAR areas now have thunderstorms again Lightning visible from a fair distance When in the storm though it's like a constant barrage which is very much OTT, something they need to dial back but with their history they may dial it back too much... I tested two different storms, one in Europe the other the USA and they we're roughly in the right areas. Maybe a bit behind the Real Time (used Blitzortung.org and Windy.com as the reference which also has Airport Locations - very handy) but generally in the right places. No proper cumulonimbus depicted, the storms "top" was larger than surrounding clouds but ultimately a flattish layer with a gap then another thin cloud layer above that. (Certainly a cloud area they could work on in the future) I did not fly (used drone cam) but have read reports that flying through these storms is a breeze (excuse the pun) but won't get to test that myself for a few weeks/months yet (flight gear packed away, but thats another story...!) Overall first impressions are though that they're back baby....hooray...it's only taken 3 years+ (sigh!) Yes, lightning is back, but thunderstorm typical clouds and dangerous winds, icing or hail inside them are nowhere to be found with live weather.

Yes but as I said I've not flown myself so cannot confirm on the winds/icing/hail etc, only that the clouds are a bit meh. The main thing is storms are working again where they went AWOL before, so it's something and better than nothing at least. June 7, 20251 yr They seem to change stuff all the time, sometimes I reckon they dump some feature due Bandwidth considerations so they can add some other feature. (and I'm not talking advertised changes, there are plenty of things messed with that they don't announce) To me its one of the big negatives of a streamed game, they can change the content whenever they desire...and they frequently do, it was evident with 2020 and continues. You can't know what you are going to get when buying because its always being changed. Edited June 7, 20251 yr by Rusty Spanner
