Terrain Loading Issue

Featured Replies

I apologise if this appears to be a duplicate post, as I started a similar thread a few weeks ago, but I had not posted a video to show the issue. As a result, some of the replies were suggesting things that were irrelevent and didn't relate to the problem. I hope this video is self explanatory. I would like to get some fedback about this, as I'm seeing a lot of this. Thanks guys.

This looks like terrain morphing to me.. which is normal in my experience..

Bert

I am seeing both terrain morphing and tile swapping, and unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it.

Adjusting LOD factors doesn't seem to do anything, and it isn't always down to interest speed as some suggest.

Lots of us see it; some don't for some reason, prompting suggestions of a poor set up, but a lot of us seeing this are 'seasoned' sim users and we know how to get a decent set up.

It is these kind of things I am genuinely hoping MSFS2024 will be better at.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I never used to see this at all but now its a regular occurrence. During a recent flight over the Alps it was like flying over the sea with continual movement and "popping" of moutain peaks!

I cant offer any solution Im afraid but as been mentioned above, changing LOD and/or resolution does nothing. I suspect its something to do with the Bing map stream but that is purely speculation.

Hmm, as someone who is very much a perfectionist and very much displays OCD, I can definitely say, this never used to happen, I would have been aware of it straight away. Like Vel, I never remember seeing this at all until recently.

Is it area specific? I have noticed it happens to me a lot more in Europe compared to the US (mainly flying into the PilotEdge area)

It's been happening since release, not everyone notices it and it's worse for some not others. Like a lot of things it's even more noticeable in VR as your eyes get triggered by it!

could it be due to tinterweb bandwidth ? i get it with my crappy 50-55 mbs hoping it improves when i get fibre from virgin 150-300

It's possible, I don't see it and have fiber with 650 mbps down and 350 up, but I also don't usually fly in the high FL's.

I upgraded to "BT Full Fibre" at 500mb and sadly it is still happening.

It's tile popping. Lots of people been reporting it getting steadily worse in various areas...I noticed it in the alps about 2 months ago. There's a forum post on the msfs site and it is now acknowledged by Asobo as a bug they're investigating. I'm not holding my breath now 2024 has been announced...

I fly a lot from over the Balcan and there you can see this behavior very clearly.

This I remarked since the beginning of this year. Before not.

Me neither.  In fact, was doing a flight two days ago, and noticed what I thought was default (FSX like) terrain loading in around me.  I didn't recall seeing a network disconnect message so checked to make sure my internet connection was working and it was.  Am also starting to notice the morphing and more generic looking textures alot more frequently - around Europe.  Not even in obscure parts of the world

I recently took off from Tivat, and within only a couple of thousand feet, witnessed the worst case of this issue I have ever seen! I mean great massive areas loading directly in front of me. You can imagine what it looked like at that height!  So I am surprised when I hear those who say it has been around since release, because as I say, I have only recently been aware of it.

It's got worse recently so that more users are affected by it, exactly the same as the White Dot issue which was reported two years ago and made worse in the recent AAU2 update to affect more people.

It's what happens when they don't pay proper attention to bugs & issues because they have a severe lack of quality control, those bugs & issues eventually get worse and spread to more users, I've seen in before in other games.
