Thoughts on Aerosoft CRJ series?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure why half this topic is some pointless discussion about a random arrival transition in LFMN when it is supposed to be about general thoughts on the AS CRJ.

Perhaps you guys can start a separate thread to really go indepth on the specifics of flying into Nice...

Back to the topic subject.
The comment begs the question why, after horrible experience in the past with other aerosoft aircraft,
another purchase seemed like a good idea?

Three types of people I can think of:

  1. Those that hope beyond evidence provided that 'this time is different.' (Naïve)
  2. Those that just want a vehicle to use to rant. (Angry)
  3. Those that are gluttons for punishment. (Masochistic)

"There's nowt so queer as folk." A British idiom for people are strange.

It was a good idea at the time when CRJ was initially released. Because at that time there wasn't any serious airliner available for MSFS. There was no Fenix, no PMDG 737, the FBW was in its early stages and had a massive stutter problem. So the CRJ was the only option to fly an airliner in MSFS. And despite all its shortcoming the CRJ fuflfilled that role decent enough for me. So it was a smart move of Aerosoft to release it at that stage.

But now that we have the Fenix, the PMDG and several other high quality - even freeware - airliner options, there is no reason to buy the CRJ any more. It falls short of the other options by far. And I don't expect any major improvements to it by Aerosoft anymore. They already made their money with it. There is not much to win for them here anymore.

The CRJ landed in my hangar the moment the Fenix was released. I never flew it again.

Explains why Bredok and CaptainSim had a sales bonanza. Well, it is a free market.

I know it has been out for awhile. But I just recently got it while awaiting other things in the world.. What is your thoughts on it?  Ive flown it a few times and its almost captain sim material for me.. Things dont work, glitchy, etc.  Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but I dont have any issuses with PMDG, Fenix, A2A..

I have no troubles w/ AS CRJ it's one of 4 planes I'm always going to be flying.  There are some areas that are different from what you might expect coming from Boeing/Airbus in terms navigation and once you've figured those out shouldn't have issues.  My chief complaint with it is taxi lights are way too dim which they tell me is the case for the real plane.   I use it regularly in A Pilot's Life and use GSX with it as well.  I'd buy it again.

What an absolutely laughable thing to say. I spent a year flying the CRJ. Most of the “issues” I had with it were corrected when I learned how to fly the plane properly. It isn’t a 737. You can’t just push buttons and watch it do what you want it to do. It takes knowledge of the plane and its systems and proficiency. I just flew it a week ago for the first time in a year and it flew just fine. To say it’s Captain Sim material is patently absurd.

I have yet to successfully complete an RNAV approach using my company's SOPs.

If you’re trying to fly RNP approaches there’s a reason they don’t work. The CRJ Can’t fly them.

Good thing not all RNAV approaches are RNP 😉

I'll never understand why some people seem to only want to fly 737's and A320's.  I mean I like those two.  But just two types....Boring!

Hey!  I bought the Bredok.  It was just to take pictures though.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Suspect it's because they're the most common airliners, flown by majority of flight simmers as pax, short haul, and are relatively easy to fly as you can push some buttons and have practically everything taken care of by the FMS.

As a stretched version of the Challenger 600 bizjet, the CRJ isn't old or quirky like the F-28, or have 4 engines like the BAe 146, nor is it as 'complicated' as a turboprop such as the ATR. I think it's fair to say other airliners in developers' pipelines appeal more than this one.

Atr to me is less complicated than the crj. Q400 and you have a point.  I still like the crj. No autothrottle is kind of cool.

Who said they were?

The CRJ series. Ah yes. The first of "higher" fidelity planes for the sim. They were fun while they lasted but were fairly buggy, had issues capturing ILS etc and feedback between AS and customers was kind of sour. Though I still liked them and flew them a lot. All over that was feasible.

Now: they have not been updated in quite a long time. Too long. There are simply too many planes out there with much higher depth and fun level. Though, I do miss the "....we are now serving sandwiches.." over the speakers haha.
