They do that close to release. Merry Christmas?

Sorry to be the Grinch, but I don't think so.

Convinces me even more that it is close to release.

Depends on your definition of close (or developers' favourite word of soon™).

We haven't had any details, let alone a single preview screenshot. When we have some pics and a customary long RSR missive on the unique brilliance of the PMDG 777, we'll be close to release (i.e. a few months to go).

A MSFS 777 product page (albeit one with lots of P3D references and pics) is hopefully a good sign that the start of the marketing campaign isn't a million miles away.

Actually, historically they have always done this with the 777 and 747.    A few weeks before,  placing the real price of a 777/747 on the product page.

Not necessarily the case.  If you listen closely to the interview he gave a few weeks back, RSR said that he could just drop the product unannounced.  This was specifically referencing the 737MAX, but there is no reason why this couldn't happen as an unannounced Xmas drop.  It's the right time of year to do something like that.  But, I guess it would either have to be at least a week before Xmas or after NY, as I bet no-one wants to be stuck on a support desk during this period.

The product page and price may well be up before Christmas, but I doubt that anyone is going to pay $300 million

But it's always historically been a bit of a joke.  I do not think the pay mechanism is actually active during this tongue-in-cheek period.

Not actually expecting it myself to be honest, but it is an interesting development, going by what has happened in the past.   If we get it, it just makes the xmas period so much busier and probably more anti-social 🙂

It's OK, it's *only* $5.1m.

An absolute bargain at that price 😉

When it finally does come out I’ll be getting it as it’ll allow me to practice my 787 non normal routines as it has the same ECL , and do VNAV engine out drift downs, all the things missing from the default 787.

I’ll basically be back in the position I was in with P3D , using the PMDG 777 for non normal failure  ECLs and the QW 787 for circuits and HUD practice.

One day it would be nice to have a fully functional 787 in the sim but I suspect by the time that happens with lengthy development times I’ll either be retired or put onto an Airbus.

I'm sure there will be marketing being done for the 777 for a while before release, but imagine casually opening FSElite or similar on the 25th and the featured headline is "PMDG release 737 MAX"...

Doesn't PMDG usually at least announce a product going into beta?.. I recall RSR saying the 777 is close to beta, but it's not even in beta yet AFAIK. I'm guessing beta will be at least 3+ months.

If the thing is still in alpha, then saying, 'we are getting ready to release the 777' is not quite true.   I didn't hear him saying it was about to go into beta.  But I drifted in and out of the interview.

actually I would find it really stupid to make such an advertisement, and then not bring it before Christmas. Most likely they are still doing the wheel wells for the 737's....

Yes, but they've been extremely quiet / inconcrete in regards to the status of the 777 for months now. The 777 is either in a very bad shape or they are preparing to steal Christmas from us fellow Avsimmers...
