Nuts.

Featured Replies

He's built a bunker in his garden, a secret tunnel, and now, after excavating his entire driveway he's building an underground garage. His DeLorian will rise up on a platform.

God knows what the building inspector thinks and how he got permission and god knows what his neighbours think. 🤔

I'm shocked! With a title like "Nuts" I was convinced you would instantly respond with a comment that would make us blush. 🙂

He has a YT channel where he does lots of crazy stuff, so obviously gets paid for that. He's sponsored as well.

I'm suprised he got planning permission to be honest. No doubt he gets regular visits from the building inspector.

I'm wondering how long his unprotected steel will last underground. 🤔

I wonder what that will do to the resale value of his house.

You've reminded me of a song...

  • "Nuts, hot nuts.
  • You get them from the peanut man.
  • Yeah, yeah, yeah, nuts, hot nuts. You get them anywhere you can!
  • See that man over by the wall, he ain't got no nuts all!

I'll grab me coat on the way out the door... 🤪

It would put some off I reckon, perhaps many. They might be a bit dubious about the structural integrity of the house after all that disruption. It has received planning permission though and building regs approval, which would include an architects involvement, so should be safe. How long it would last before the steel was rotten would be something they would ponder, no doubt.

On the other hand, it might be a selling point for some buyers that liked novelty properties.

He addressed the rust issue in his latest video. He used two methods. When he built his underground bunker in the garden he used steel with polythene over the top, then concrete, obviously a dodgy idea given that the polythene membrane would trap moisture and rot the steel. For some sections he just laid concrete straight on top of the steel.

Interestingly, it appears that when you lay concrete straight on top of steel it actually inhibits rusting, the two chemical reactions cancel each other out. He cut a couple of discs out of the steel in the video, from a section built 8 years ago. With the polythene membrane there was a lot of surface rust but nothing too sever. Without the polythene membrane there was virtually no rust after 8 years.

The thing that occurs to me is that this looks like a basic 1970's semi detached house and doesn't look like a top-notch location. If I had that much money available I'd be buying a detached house in a good neighborhood. not building a bat cave.

"Furze's many contraptions are publicised on his YouTube channel. On 13 March 2010, he uploaded a video of his converted scooter, incorporating a flame thrower that could shoot flames up to 15 feet (4.5 m) in the air. On 25 March 2010, Furze was arrested by Lincolnshire Police, for possessing an object converted into a firearm (in UK law a flame thrower is a type of firearm). He was released on bail without charge the next day. This was Furze's third attempt at producing such a device, as the first did not ignite and the second burst into flames."

Lol love watching some of the stuff he does, but definitely glad I don't live next door to him.

I suppose that's why rebar works so well in reinforced concrete. I'll be really interested to see how his car will be raised up to ground level safely.
