December 12, 20232 yr Seriously, whenever I want to do anything on the site, I get an ad popup each time I click on anything in the forum. If I load a page, to read a forum post, I get a popup, If I do a search, I get a popup, If I click the next page, I get a popup, If I open the site on startup, I get a popup. If I walk away and come back, I get a popup. What's going on? I understand ads make revenue for the site but how about only one popup, not on every single click. This is my go site for everything flight sim related, and I would hate to lose out on helpful information because the site is like this. I have security programs, but it still doesn't work. Anyone else have this problem? I'm pretty sure when I submit this post, I will get a popup.

Don't know what browser you use, but every one of them has a popup blocker these days and most have ad blockers. December 12, 20232 yr There's been a few threads about this in the past in the other sections of the forums - It's pretty bad, especially on mobile. Click a thread topic, boom redirected to an ad. Only way to prevent it is to have an adblocker installed as others have mentioned in this thread. December 12, 20232 yr Firefox and an ad blocker. If not for these two things I simply wouldn't use the internet and that is the truth. Advertising has always had the exact opposite effect on me to what they desire. If you stick something in my face I'll go out of my way to buy from the guy that isn't. All it does it peeve me off. Especially these days when every advert isn't just about selling you something you don't want but also ramming a polical "message" down your throat. I avoid them at all costs. I don't watch live TV without recording it and fast-forwarding through their moronic junk, I don't arrive at the cinema while they are still on, I won't browse the internet without Firefox and an adblocker. Advertising in the last 15 years has become invasive, insulting and utterly absurd and I simply refuse to be treated like a receptacle all day every day. It demoralises me in a profound way. December 12, 20232 yr 1 hour ago, Jazz said: Advertising has always had the exact opposite effect on me to what they desire I concur, as they say. I haven't seen a TV add for probably 35 years now. When Channel 4 here first started going directly from programming in to ad breaks (so you're watching a program one second and then you're immediately watching some more-on extolling the virtues of some cr*p the very next second) that was it for me. Nowadays we just won't ever watch a commercial channel. No programming is worth it. I do honestly believe advertising, plus the whole internet promotion/influencing thing, is actually pulling down the average IQ everywhere. No idea what sort of advertising goes on on avsim - never seen any (adblocker user), but we ought to remember, if you don't want to see ads - be prepared to make donations occasionally. And that's not a dig at anyone in this thread, just a general comment. Ditto support for Wikipedia and similar. There's no free lunch, except maybe wild berries and roadkill.
