Burning Blue Design recommendations?

Featured Replies

I tend to fly quite often in the Southern part of England with Popham as my base.

I own Burning Blue Design’s Popham and really like it… especially when RW26 is in use 😉

With the current MP sale I want to get a few more of the Burning Blue Design airfields in the area.

Do any of you have some recommendations, favourites etc.?

Hiya, sure, I too have Popham and it makes a nice short trip down to Compton Abbas EGHA, which is also Burning Blue Design. It makes for an interesting approach from both the west and the east. I'd recommend it. Thruxton is another nice airport, a bit bigger than those two. It has an interesting surprise for flyers, as you approach you'll see racing cars driving around the perimeter of the airfield, which is quite cool. I could also highly recommend Orbx's Shoreham EGKA, very, very nice approach from the north. It also makes a nice trip from Compton Abbas if you fly south east across the New Forest and then along the coast, crossing Southampton and Portsmouth, really nice trip.

I think I have all of them south of about Oxford. Farnborough is a must. Lydd is always a good place to start any trip. Goodwood is lovely. Rochester too. Depends where you want to concentrate on. I have a cluster of them in the South East.

Tbh I think ALL the BBdesign airports are worth getting. Probably one of the devs I buy now (maybe waiting for sales as there’s loads now) without reading reviews.

They’re a great dev and their discord is fantastic also with loads of previews and feedback being asked for and acted on from the community. Just great airports from a great dev and a real example of how well it all can be done.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Looks like expanding my collection with Compton Abbas, Goodwood and Rochester would give me a nice West to East coverage South of London.

I will be purchasing Burning Blue Design EGLF Farnborough when I get to it on my MSFS shopping list today  The only disadvantage of buying from the MS Marketplace is the daft download speeds. I have already purchased six items elsewhere (ORBx and IniBuilds), and download speeds were lightning fast.

I have virtually all of Burning Blue's airfields on my shopping list, as I visited nearly all of the southern England airfields when I was younger.  If they have a sale I will be diving in for sure!

I already have a few through Orbx (Farnborough, Thruxton).  As stated above, download speeds are good, and I like to keep everything in one place as much as I can.
The Orbx Manager also allows you to store the files on another drive and just pastes a shortcut into the Community folder (such as with addon manager), as the Orbx library can get quite large.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I am flying the PMDG 737-600, so most of the Burning Blue Design airfields are not part of my operational licence  They all look nice though.

Pilot Plus Biggin Hill is also highly recommended. Available from the developer as well as ORBX -

I've got about 8 from them.  All really nice and immersive (if a little expensive for what they are, when not on sale).

My favourite is probably EGCL Fenland

Tatenhill is also really nice.

All good stuff. I've bought them all bar the last one (haven't got around to it yet). I have enjoyed the Stow Maries a lot of late. Great fun in the Got Friends Fokker.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

With Just Flight's Vulcan and Hawk, and Dave Garwood's Hunters, I think it's time to get Farnborough.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Pilot Plus are one of my fave devs, they really are at the 'top of the tree!' That Biggin Hill that you linked to is bloody gorgeous!

Does anyone use Burning Blue Design EGMD Lydd with ORBx Great Britain South? I am interested in this airport, but I want to know if there are any conflicts between the two scenery packages. I think that ORBx Great Britain South includes Dungeness Nuclear Power Station, and Burning Blue Design EGMD Lydd also includes a version of this landmark.

I have both and have not noticed any issues.
