I'm generally a lucky guy where MSFS is concerned and don't have many issues.

But completely out of the blue, having been using MSFS just fine earlier today. I just launched the sim, was told I needed a 11Gb mandatory update (I was fully up to date), and then on loading, was horrified to see MSFS start on the dread "accessibility" screen, with everything reset, and all joystick and controller settings lot.

Is there any way back to my previous good settings?

PS... 4 perfectly fine sessions in MSFS today.  Then I installed the new updated Flightsimware C414, launched MSFS, and everything lost.  Maybe co-incidence but one heck of a coincidence.

Tried deleting cloud saves.  Nothing.

....so every time I start MSFS, everything is reset and I get the Accessibility screen and all of the basic "first time use" set up pages.     Change the settings, save everything, exit MSFS, go back in, and it's back to everything reset and the Accessibility  screen.  😞

My controller assignments were in the dozens of profiles - all lost.

Done with this.  Just don't have the time or energy.   Yesterday I said to someone how I had never been happier with any flight sim in 20 years, than MSFS right now.

Then this.....

No good.  I'm done.  Happy flying friends.

Thanks.  I tried a few restarts, to no avail.

The problem is, at some point, you need to start reassigning. So after a few hours I completed about 1% of my reassignments.    I guess that now means that my old profiles will never be restored, because the wondrous 'cloud' will have now saved the new profiles - I guess meaning the old have been lost for good.

What MSFS really needs (while it's cloud saving is so problematic and there are many reports of this 'complete reset') is a log of different profile settings.  Eg.  So in my situation, I could go back to 'last known good' settings, from a few days ago. Instead of just "We've saved your current settings, and don't worry, we won't lose them!" - MS.

Since the settings are stored in the cloud i guess that when you start MSFS and it can't sync your data (mostly not on your side), it probably sees your install as a new one and applies default settings.
Cloud syncing works fine just until it can't sync. Then it just s...ks

Not exactly related, but three days ago, my Windows 11 suddenly showed the screen that it needs to be activated. Of course, I did not change anything since the last time my rig was running. Lucky me, a simple "did you change hardware" process run through fixed it. Maybe MS had (or still has) some serious trouble with their authentication servers?

It's a serious design flaw to not have controller profiles (and all other settings) saved locally for easy access, especially with a simulation that relies so heavily on multiple controllers, bindings etc.

Let's hope this is one less mess we have to deal with when MSFS2024 comes out, the cloud is good but that shouldn't be the only main option.

It still works. I had the same issue as the OP a few days ago (I'm in su15 beta). I quit MSFS, logged out of Xbox and MS store and rebooted. After logging into both apps I started MSFS and had my original settings back.

But it would be nice to have a way to acces one's cloud configuration, make a backup or restore a previous configuration.

Thanks Vaughan.

I've just read that full thread.   May have been related, but I'm not sure.  Certainly there was an unexpected 11Gb update in my case (like you, it didn't actually add anything else new to the content manager, so I guess it was erroneously just overwriting existing content).    But my main issue wasn't the update content, it was that every imaginable setting was reset, and (the worst part for me) all of my hardware assignments and groups were completely erased.    I had around 40 different control profiles, which were all lost.

I can't even face beginning to reprogram all of those controller profiles again yet - as I'm just too 'scared' that I will start MSFS again, and find them all erased again.

Yes, I tried this; logged out of the Xbox app and MS Store, then logged back on.    This fixed the issue where no settings were being saved.  (It was resetting everything, every single time I launched MSFS!).  So that was some good progress.  But the actual controller profiles are still lost.

For most people, that would probably not be such a drama.  But I had over 40 different controller profiles - for different aircraft, across a number of different hardware units).

Linking to @MarcG's point above:-

My strategic solution going forward is that I am going to try and make every single keyboard and hardware assignment in AAO (Axis & Ohs).  As much as I love AAO, it's actually quite clunky for assigning some basic commands (like the default autopilot commands), as there are just so many different commands available, and some of the default ones have different names to those in MSFS. So finding - for example - something like "AP VERTICAL SPEED REF INCREASE" in Axis & Ohs can be quite the job!

But I am never going to let MS **** me over to this degree again.   So although it's be a monumental amount of work to assign every key press and hardware assignment in AAO, that's what I'll have to do, because AAO profiles are (i) stored locally on the machine, and (ii) backed up.

That was my plan also but fortunately it was not neccesary in my case.
BTW, I have already started to migrate my throttle quadrant settings to AAO because I was fed up having to browse through all the profiles in MSFS.
Those aircraft that I fly regularly at the moment are all done but everytime I want to something else I need to spend some time to redo the things. I have a few templates but especially third party aircraft often require different settings It can be time consuming (and frustrating) to find out what works and sometimes I have to write scripts to get things working the way I want.

I have kept my yoke and rudders in MSFS since they don't vary much between aircraft. Rudders are easy but determining which buttons to use on my yoke and for what is quite time consuming.

Too bad there isn't an easy way to share profiles and scripts, like Spad.next has. At least it looks good on paper. Also, it would be great if developers could supply scripts and profiles with their aircraft. It would be relatively easy for them since they already know which variables and values to use.
