March 19, 20242 yr I have a RTX 3070 GPU and am looking at two Ryzen CPU's. Firstly, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and secondly the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Which of these two will work best with the RTX 3070 in FS 2020?
March 19, 20242 yr 7800X3D no questions asked for your specific use case. 7950X3D is a powerhouse CPU, who's power is actively underutilised in games, so you're paying extra power that won't at all be used. It's a CPU more suited to enterprise development. Take the 7800X3D and you'll be happy for quite a few years. It's still the king of Gaming CPUs across Intel and AMD.
March 19, 20242 yr What Lucky said. Get some fast RAM to complement the 7800X3D (check your chosen motherboard's QVL for compatibility). The Ryzen CPUs love speedy RAM, which is rather affordable now. Also, if your budget permits, consider a 2 TB M.2 drive. Speaking from experience, your MSFS load times will be noticeably quicker if you have lots of add-ons and you'll have space for them all. March 19, 20242 yr I bought the 7950x3d because flight sims are CPU intensive and you cannot have enough CPU power. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
March 19, 20242 yr MSFS is mainly GPU limited now because of the way threads are used (or not) in 2020. When 2024 is released, and it utilizes threads far better, the tide could change to something like the 7950x3d. More future proof imo. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

March 19, 20242 yr The Screen shot is from a bugged test by some youtuber , the 7950x is 4% faster then the 7800x3d if you run i the 7950 " in 7800x3d mode" 7950x3d is higer binned cpu and the std max boost is 200mhz higher , i have both cpus run my 7950x3d in bclk mode ( async ) and use 8 cores 7800x3d mode the bosst is 5600mhz contra 5300 for the 7800x3d , If money dosent matter the 7950x3d all day long , http://

One thing I have noticed when running MSFS is that all 16 cores are pretty much running 5GHz+ most of the time. At least 12 cores are always loaded, some pushing 5.3GHz. It could be that I have road traffic maxed, boats maxed, FSLTL maxed, and everything on Ultra, but MSFS is using those 16 cores for something and it is ultra smooth at airports like LAX while doing it. And I imagine that when MSFS 2024 comes out with much better use of multithreading, a CPU like this is only going to be more valuable. But the 7800x3d is awesome too! No wrong answer imo. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

MSFS 2020: to be or not to be a game, that is the question. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-vs-ryzen-9-7950x3d/ "Zooming out, you can expect the Ryzen 7 7800X3D to perform just as well as the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Depending on the games you play, it may skew a couple of points in either direction, but when $300 is on the table, it’s hard to argue with the performance the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is offering." "The reason why the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is able to perform as well as the flagship comes down to the fact that it uses a single core complex (CCX). That leads to faster cache-to-cache transfers, according to AMD, helping the Ryzen 7 close the gap in gaming performance compared to the dual CCX Ryzen 9 7950X3D."
