  • You’re dreaming.

  • I'm pretty certain that I would prefer to use a 3rd party for the airac data as I know it's from a reputable dev who's one goal is to get that data correct.

Monthly AIRAC updates would definitely be a monthly subscription, not a once-off. I will rather pay Navigraph (as I do already), they are the experts and doing a pretty good job.

I have been using Aivlasoft EFB for years, and it gives me every chart, departure, approach, moving map, weather depiction, anything I need that is actually in MSFS. No subscription required. I don't fly without it, ever.

You never know MS are bringing advertising to MS O/S in the future, they could do that with MSFS that would help pay for it. but I suspect when MSFS is finally done they will again give it to the community to support as they did with FSX.

Thanks. I like the look of this EFB.  I may install the trial version later on.

Well said, but you can have at 90 per year from simbrief.

Not quite right. Without a subscription to the current AIRAC data your data will not be accurate. Runway designations change as do ILS idents, SIDs and STARs.

I have an FMS Data subscription which keeps mine current for P3D. MSFS will be no different.

Prospective users should be aware of limitations with MSFS.

I forget from when I downloaded a trial version:  does it import Simbrief plans presumably?

Yeah, I should have mentioned that  I subscribe to data only for Airac, $30 a year.

Yes, Simbrief downloader installs it directly into Aivlasoft EFB.

That option (FMS Data) is no longer available sadly. Navigraph tried to push all subscribers to their Charts package at three times the cost. I was one of the loudest voices urging them to change their mind. Fortunately they did. You and I can continue with that forever but I fear new subscribers will be forced to the Charts package.

Yeah, I don't understand that. We can renew at the $30 price for data only, but they have taken that plan totally off their website, like they want to hide it. I don't like their charts and would never use them.

A blatant cash grab I’m afraid. They may dispute that but that’s exactly how it came across. They really should allow new subscribers to buy the FMS Data package if that’s all some simmers need.

As I understand it, MS has a long term partnership with Jeppeson, so it makes sense they should go ahead with this plan.

I don't know where this idea comes from, but I can say categorically that MS has absolutely no partnership or license agreement of any kind with Jeppesen.

There is a reason that Navigraph (Jeppesen data) costs what it costs per year per user.

The OP is regarding giving simmers the choice for an MS updated AIRAC and MS in sim charts and flight planner that doesn't require 3rd party tools. As I understand it, MS has a long term partnership with Jeppeson, so it makes sense they should go ahead with this plan.

Microsoft had a partnership with Jeppesen back in the days of FS9 and FSX. Jepp was the provider of in-sim nav data (although it was not updatable), and as I recall they provided the METAR weather data for FSX for a few years.

If MS was going to partner with Jeppesen, the time they should have done so was before MSFS initially released. Instead, they chose NavBlue as their AIRAC provider. NavBlue was also going to provide charts, but nothing ever came of that.

The Jeppesen partnership nowadays is with Navigraph - and I can’t see MS/Asobo trying to intrude on that now by cutting their own deal with Jeppesen.
