May 2, 20242 yr I bought all of Active sky products in P3D etc, I did not buy AS for MSFS. I did go back and try REX again. I have had but experienced memory issues early on. I always did like the depiction better than MSFS but the issues I could not deal with. With AS being released and seeing some vids of it, I thought I would try REX again. Man, over the past 5 days I have been impressed with the depiction and accuracy. Is it perfect, nope. but dang believable. Image below of multi layer clouds, flat bottoms, scud, etc. The thunderstorms' are fantastic. Not wanting to get into an argument. If you have it and have not loaded it lately .....Try it. sorry for the grainy quality..I will try to post better ones. https://share.icloud.com/photos/087Eayl-7V24_f6oTu5j0IW9A Edited May 2, 20242 yr by cchiozza Chris Chiozza
May 2, 20242 yr Glad it's working for your flying. 👍 Plausible weather eludes me; having learnt the hard way that THE ONLY vaguely functional task for REX is METAR station to METAR station (with many METAR stations enroute), preferably flying high. For GA, and for GA distant from METAR stations stick with what Asobo provides us. But to their credit some folks really seems to enjoy it, good for them.
May 2, 20242 yr Author I will continue to test but so far it has been close. I have been flying through and around cold front weather and as mentioned above the multi layers have been really nice. Chris Chiozza

May 3, 20242 yr When i was a young lad there was a nationwide eyeglasses/vision retail company. Their advertising tag line was "look to Lee for better vision". The struggle for me with MSFS for realistic weather depiction and textures is much like that question. Who do I look to? I love REX products and have used them faithfully since around 2014. In previous sims I leaned hard on REX for add-on textures. Airport/runways, as well as clouds and weather presets. Unfortunately the weather injection fell short of AS16 and FS Global Real Weather (FSGRW). Over the first 3 years of life with woeful MSFS live wx I came to rely on REX WF for depiction. MSFS live weather improved in accuracy and timeliness, but not in textures, and I turned back to it. Hifi has now hijacked me for live weather depiction and added (previously missing) weather textures, but IMHO falls short of the textures in an FSX/P3D predecessor, REX Environment Extreme. It was literally phenominal. I welcome the day from my previous sim life, if it develops, that HiFi gives me the best real time WX depiction, and REX gives me the best real look (textures)! I greatly value both for their respective and historical strengths. And wish to fully embrace both respectively. Good to have several high quality weather addons. Competition is always good. And the more high quality weather addons are available, the more simmers will use one of them realizing the shortcomings of default weather. So the higher the pressure on MS/Asobo will be to finally realize that they can only win if they allow third party developers full access to the weather system.

May 3, 20242 yr No METAR and PRESET based WX will be able to get you anythning near to what MSFS currently does (read PRESET based!). One airfield has few clouds and 20 miles away on another airfield you have incoming storms. So you will have to aply 2 presets (which can not be done) at this time. E.g. I constantly fly to Romania Timisoara on business. At this time both REX and AS show a "sunny day" over the Airport because the METAR says so. But just few miles away, you have a closed cloud covarage which brings rain. Gues what the sim shows with REX and AS ;). Only MSFS depicts this closest to what happens in real life. Is it spot on all the time? No, but I tend to accept the general weather coverage idea more the a METAR PRESET based WX. My 2 ct.
