Post SU15 NZMF (Milford Sound in New Zealand} is still permanently ice bound with live weather!  Is it so difficult or are they just are they just ignoring the issue?

Don<t have the problem. Started up in NZMF today daytime. It started showing snow covered trees but after selecting start fly the snow disappeared. Tried with and without Active Sky: no snow or ice.

Also checked that I have no NZ add-ons

The thing is that  while we don't have ice in the sound it is quite rare to have snow down to sea level at Milford Sound even in May - on the approach road before the tunnel yes certainly but at Milford rain and lots of it is the typical weather pattern.  Whereas, I at least, still get snow every time I go to MSFS with real weather enabled.

No issue? Your screenshot shows everything covered in snow, which is completely wrong. No wonder so little people report issues with snow coverage if they consider such things as "no issue" *facepalm*

Excuse me if I sound p*, but I am, it is absolutely ridiculous that the snow coverage is bugged since snow was introduced into the sim and still not fixed. I mean, the Q&A even clearly shows that those three evergrinning guys are still not 100% aware about what the issue actually is, a fact that is hardly acceptable and again leads me to think if any at Asobo really ever USES their own freaking sim...

Yeah well it's important of those that fly in NZ..there are similar issues at Mt Cook...and elsewhere in the world

The problem is, this one airfield in New Zealand is just representative for vast areas all over the world. So nothing to do with clickbaity, just with ignorance of some users (or inability to realize the issue...).

OP in the first post said Ice nothing about snow. So forgive me if I thought nothing was wrong if they had maybe said snow covered then I would have said I have the same issue….

PAJN is still in a whiteout which is not very accurate since it is a coastal town but just down the coast CYBD has the best snow early spring blending I have ever seen.

Must be a lat / lon thing.

They do know what the issue is, they've talked about it several times.

I'm guessing it's harder to fix that you realize.

I listened to each and every Q&A about this issue because it is one of the most immersion killing bugs to me and it heavily affects my hometown rendering live weather basically useless in the area I live in. Only in one of the last Q&A sessions they actually separated (correctly) the icing vs. snow coverage issue, before they always considered it to be the same. And it took them more than two years to reach this point... 

It might be hard to fix, but that is not really my problem, no? It is an essential feature of the sim (live weather) which is simply broken since they introduced snow coverage. Should be enough of a priority, no? It took them several attempts to get at least those lakes free of ice, already this is just an embarassing showcase of problem solving at Asobo. 

Really, sometimes bad work is just bad work and it certainly does not help if we always defend Asobo because things are sooo difficult to fix, need sooo much manpower, soo much more data from the meteoblue partner etc. It is a major DESIGN flaw that needs correction. 

But then, if 90% of the people are using weather presets or simply to word not allowed/stupid to even notice, why blaming the devs, no? /rant over

They are using a low resolution Meteo Blue snow coverage map in the area of Milford Sound, which makes the snow “spread” over a much wider geographical area than than where it actually lies in real time. Does a higher resolution map exist at MeteoBlue? Perhaps - but the cost of that might not something that MS cannot justify. I have no idea what MeteoBlue charges MS for their weather data.

Another problem in New Zealand specifically, is that the NZ government heavily restricts the dissemination of meteorological data to entities which are located outside the country, and even for entities located in NZ itself, any commercial use of that data comes with substantial subscription fees.

As I mentioned in other posts, there are almost 100 small and mid sized airports in NZ that report METARS, but the only METAR observations that can be disseminated internationally under NZ government regulations the four largest international airports. That would make it hard for MeteoBlue to build an accurate weather model emulation for the country as a whole, including actual snow depth (or lack of snow) at airports like NZMF
