Active Sky Beta 8920

Featured Replies

I normally avoid installing betas, but decided to make and exception with AS. I installed it last night and after flying the A2A Comanche for about 35 minutes from KSAV to KJAX, my PC made this weird sound, and it locked up solid. I restarted it. reloaded the flight, and this time, it crashed, and the PC shut down. Tried one more time, and the same thing happened . I uninstalled the beta, went back to 8883 and so far so good. The AS beta was the only thing I had changed, and I have only 1 CDT in almost 2 years, and never had PC shut down completely until today.

It's for sure improving, but that AS screenshot looks terrible.

  • This software is getting better and better every day. It's such a tremendous improvement in every aspect, IMHO. AS   MSFS2020 WX

  • ActiveSky making do with the limited capability to influence the weather depiction available to it. Asobo is responsible for rectifying the 'volcanic ash clouds'.

Did you completely uninstalled all components before installing the beta?

No I overwrote it per the instructions on their website.

AS updates have always been an "over write" not uninstall and install new. I have no theory as to why newest beta causes crash for a few (at least one).

But you are moving from a very old version, and when they issued subsequent betas, they instructed to uninstall all components before, including license and credentials.

OK, maybe I will try it again in a day or  two, just to make sure everything is OK with MSFS first.

Bob, if it happens again, you might want to open a ticket at HiFi, I'm sure they would like to know what the issue is.  I run all the vetas as they are released and I have never had a CTD. For me, I always uninstall/reinstall rather than write over - just to be sure.

Well apparently it was not the AS beta.I installed 8883 and same thing happened. The only else that was changed was the map enhancement tool was updated this morning. I am going to stop that, and see if I still have a problem.

That first picture is by far the most unrealistic depiction I have seen to date. What's with the straight horizontal line?

Earth curvature and low clouds? The same effect that makes ship "sink" on the horizon.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Looks like it was the Map enhancement tool which had an  update this morning, when I started it..  I just flew a flight, not using the Map tool, and it went perfectly.

I use the Active Sky beta every time and have never encountered a single problem. I also haven't encountered this weather scenario in this photo in 30 hours of flying per week.I also believe that a lot of people install software without really knowing what they are installing.

What I am certain of is that I certainly would not go back to the default weather.

Last evening arrival into Manchester I encountered this very immersive weather with beautiful dusk light and thunderstorms in the area. Combined with the Map Enhancement app (thanks for the suggestions @filou!) and VoxATC, it was one of those golden moments that happen every now and then.

When I was finally out of the hold and vectored onto VOR DME 23L, the weather had worsened considerably so that I had to do a missed approach (DA 690ft) and got intructed to do another hold 🙂

Did you adjust the settings in AS?

Could you be so kind and tell me what exactly should I adjust there?
