How to practice landings with the PMDG T7

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have been enjoying flying the T7 but I need to practice my landings.   I seem to hit pretty hard and I think part of the problem is that the perspective is much higher above the runway than most planes.

That said, is there a best practice for how to save a flight in mid-air, about 6 nm from the airport?  I tried using the save flight feature in MSFS but when I reload it all goes crazy and I am overspeeding by about 100 knots on loading.  I know that the PMDG T7 is a very complex plane so I didn't really think that the MSFS save could freeze all the necessary parameters.  Any advice on the best way to save flights on approach?  Thanks.

I think it's recommended to land with auto throttle engaged. Auto throttle will automatically  cut power around 25 ft AGL. I personally prefer  pitch attitude 2-3 degrees on round up. I use GPWS radio altimeter calls to help me with round up.

I use Flightsave and for easy landing practise at any airport. You find it at www.simmarket.com

FSIPanel is very good and keeps getting better. I just wish I had time to use it more.

Much better for your skill training, and more realistic, is to spend an hour or so flying circuits.

I’m sure there’ll be a circuit profile diagram available for the T7 somewhere.

I agree. With anything big, like the 737 or A310, I do circuits at Edwards KEDW in California. Two huge runways, set out in the desert so it's easy to spot, and some nice freeware scenery at FS.2.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

That’s exactly where I do my circuit training too,.It also has the advantage of being surrounded by nothing but dessert so is great for smooth frame rates .

Yeah do circuits.

You will also get better at landing by just spending time hand flying the aircraft. Just keep doing some circuits with touch and go’s for an hour or two. You’ll learn a lot about the aircraft and how it handles and even the bits when you’re not actively landing the aircraft will be of great benefit.

Straight out of our FCTM: touchdown attitude at VREF is roughly 4 degrees. If your speed is higher than VREF, you'll need a lower touchdown angle. Ideally, you'll touchdown at VREF (I don't know about you, but when I hear "ten" from the gipwiz, all bets are off, not paying attention to any particular pitch attitude).

PS: This is for a standard touchdown rate of -150 FPM

Thanks! I don't have 777 FCOM, so I just eye ball it. So far according to Pilot Life Chapter 2 I nail it with in 200 fpm LOL

The T7 is the easiest and most consistent tubeliner to land in MSFS 2020. Just watch your speeds, altitudes, and leave AT on. Piece of cake.
