MSFS2024 Versions- Any difference in core features?

Featured Replies

I am aware of the advertised differences of the amount of aircraft and hand crafted airports quantities between the versions, but I was wondering if there could be any difference under the hood between each version? For example could the standard version not include things like ship traffic, seasons, less career options or animals? I don't mean these specifically but just to give a general idea of what I am getting at. I have the premium deluxe edition of MSFS 2020, so I don't know if there is currently any difference between this and the standard version of MSFS 2020.

I have a home cockpit and only fly one aircraft moving continuously from airport to airport around the world so I don't need more aircraft and airports than what the standard version offers. I am just concerned that I might be missing out on some key new features if I don't get premium deluxe again and just go with the Standard edition.

Thanks,

Bill

I don’t think so.

No one here will know the answer you are seeking.

Only the developers will know at this point!

Features wise, it's just aircraft and airports. Same with 2020.

We do know. It's just aircraft and airports.

If MSFS 2024 follows MSFS 2020, it's highly unlikely that the core features of Standard will be different from the Deluxe/Deluxe Premium/Aviator editions. It appears the differences among all these editions are the airplanes and custom handcrafted airports.  If you are not interested in the custom handcrafted airports that currently come with the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2020, then you can probably go with the Standard edition of MSFS 2024.

If you own the Premium Deluxe Edition you do get a discount in the Marketplace for any of the Microsoft published aircraft.

I would say that if you have the premium deluxe in 2020, you will probably want to get the premium deluxe in 2024.  That's what I plan to do.

I know Henrik has been working with asobo with his global ship traffic.  Is Muanu doing anything with them with regard to powerlines, solar farms and ski lifts?

For me, I'm hoping that most of my 2020 addons will look ok in the new version, but we will have to wait to see which ones can be upgraded and which ones will require new versions.

What I am looking forward to are the seasons, better clouds and weather, higher texture and mesh resolutions, 3D trees and grass looking more realistic and bumpy.  It will be interesting to see how it performs and whether I will need any system upgrades.

I also hope that AI traffic and ATC will have been improved.

No, but they are working with PuffinFlight to add VFR landmarks to 2024 (and 2020)

Not at launch.

No core differences

5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX  9070XT.

No differences in the actual sim itself; only in the number of custom airports and aircraft that come with it. Same as in MSFS2020. Buy with confidence.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Ahh, yes, we do know. Number of enhanced airports and aircraft.

The strange confusion over the difference in MSFS2020 Standard, Deluxe, and Premium versions evidently persists in MSFS2024. (I say strange because, if you pay attention when you make the purchase, it's very clear). As other have stated, there is NO difference in core features in MSFS2020 -- the Deluxe and Premium versions have additional airports and aircraft, and that's it. No reason for MSFS2024 to be any different in this respect.

I'm honestly not sure why this confusion exists. They have been extremely clear in explaining what each edition comes with.

No differences in the core sim. All features are the same.

The only difference is that the more expensive editions get some more planes and some more hand-crafted airports. Also, the planes will be available to buy piecemeal - you could buy the standard edition and then buy just the 787 if you want. This was recently confirmed by Jorge in the developer SDK livestream (or the other first look one, but he definitely said this). Not sure whether the airports can also be bought, I missed that bit.

One thing to keep in mind is if you download a lot of freeware airport addons you may run into issues with missing textures/models in some cases.  I have downloaded at least a few airport addons for the current sim that mention they've used assets specific to the Premium Deluxe version and if you don't own it you won't see them.  Not that something like that is a good reason on its own to buy a different version, but just something to keep in mind in the decision process.
