October 17, 20241 yr I pre-purchased 2024 premium deluxe from Microsoft Store. It told me to select install location. As pre-purchase I didn't see the point but since it was showing a default on C-drive XBoxGames, I selected other option which was XBoxGames on my sim drive where 2020 is installed. Of coarse it didn't actually install, it just said release date November.. So when I close Store app I see MSFS 2020 shortcut pinned to taskbar disappear. It still shows up in Start menu but clicking on it does nothing. I tried to "fix" it under properties, but that did nothing. If I go to it in start menu and select "run as admin" it will run, but that is only way. Clearly MS has screwed up my 2020 installation.
October 17, 20241 yr I think I had sort of the same problem. I made a folder MSFS2024 and installed next to MSFS2020. But when clicking the flightsimulator.exe in the MSFS2024\Microsoft Flight Simulator\content folder it starts 2020. Maybe try that. I9-14900K, Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite AX, RTX 4080, 32 ram.1 tb nvme M.2 SSD, MSFS 2020 on 2 tb nvme m.2 SSD
October 17, 20241 yr I just cannot understand why anyone would want to pre-purchase this at all. I'm sure it's not a race to be first? Why not wait a month? It will be an instant download then. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

It will be an instant download then. I will wait for a couple of weeks after it is released, and read the reports of the early buyers. If it sounds stable, I will get it, if not , I will wait some more. No rush, my 2020 is working perfectly.
October 17, 20241 yr Make a new shortcut from the Start Menu. Right click properties and choose to open the location and make a shortcut in there for the .exe file or instead choose "pin to the taskbar" on the .exe file. Also, you can make a folder somewhere with links with alll your msfs stuff (manuals, shortcuts, store apps like simmaket, shortcuts to addon linker etc.) And then pin the folder to the taskbar. In the tips section I wrote how to pin folders to the taskbar in Windows 11 because you can't drop a shortcut to a folder onto the taskbar like you could in windows 10. But there's an easy workaround. Or use Stardock Start11 which does pins with a simple mouseclick. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 18, 20241 yr Author Update, I found a fix. Went back to Microsoft Store - Library, and installed 2020 premium deluxe. It took less than two seconds, and now all is back to normal. Makes me wonder what will happen to 2020 when 2024 is installed on the same drive since you only get to choose the install drive and "xboxgames" is the required folder. Both will be side by side. Maybe some of the alpha tester can comment on the 2024 install location. Thanks all.

After my little fiasco, although I have already bought, I have decided to wait a while before I install it also.

I,m doing the same it will have bugs for sure , no new release ever goes smooth and it will probably be while before developers like Fenix , PMDG etc aircraft will work in the new sim Edited October 18, 20241 yr by jason74 Jason Richards

People who already know they're buying something because they know that something is going to be good don't mind getting the purchase done whenever they can. It's not complicated.
