Which version will you get? The aviator version is not cheap... I might wait for a steam sale.

Hilarious that they included Kiribati in the list. Great wink and a nod to the community.

  • Instant buy, but I'm not optimistic we could immediately use it 100% as a replacement for 2020.

I will be sitting on the fence and munching on my popcorn when November 19 rolls into sunlight. I will observe the battlefield from a safe distance, take notes, and wait for the compatibility brigade

I’m very excited about this release, just as I have been for every release since I first drove to buy FS98 and brought it home without even having a computer to install it onto!  Getting a new FS version is the best holiday ever.

Having tried the Alpha I think we’ll all really enjoy this version with less reliance on some single CPU thread - it seemed very smooth.  I also hope that the new groundcover (which wasn’t in the Alpha) helps the ground coloring of the orthos, but we’ll see.

I am going to try something new this time and run a very “minimalist” install and not go crazy installing free or payware add ons except for maybe fully compatible planes (we’ll see how long that lasts).

The wait is unbearable, but I have a new Atari 2600+ arriving today to play with over the weekend. 😂

I agree.  I remember waiting outside of Best Buy in a long line to get my copy of FSX on release day!

In some ways it was more exiting and an adventure back then.  The official announcement and driving to the store so you can put your deposit down.  Typically I was a day one deposit holder and even then they had something like 40 or 50 pre orders just that first day.  Usually by day of release they had a few hundred pretty orders.  Often more than product they are getting on that first day so it was important to get your deposit early.  This was at my local Software ETC or whatever it was called back then.  You wake up and make sure you arrive just before the store opens.  Usually a small line at that time to get in line and you guessed it all for Flight Simulator.  Had many friendly conversations with people you were standing in line with.  The feeling of having the clerk hand you your copy as you finish paying for it is priceless.  I could not run out of the mall quick enough and I had to be careful I did not get a ticket on the drive home.

In the past I also had to pre order a copy for my friend in Norway.  Back then M$ Flight Simulator was always delayed by a week or two in his market.  So with FS2002, FS2004 and FSX I had to stop by Fed Ex and overnight his copy to him and that cost just as much if not more than the actual game.

The way its done now is pretty boring but likely better for the wallet and environment.  As I have aged I almost don't want to drive all around burning a half tank of gas just for my copy of Flight Simulator.

My problem is I have MSFS running so well right now.  I really am not looking forward to the frustration of reinstalling all of my stuff.  Some of it I can probably drag over. But things that are full packages like FENIX, PMDG, iFLY, CRJ, ATR, GSX and about 100 other sceneries those are all going to need new installs.  I also think that compatibility with MSFS addons has been oversold.  I'm expecting numerous problems with sceneries at a minimum. Also, I have so much stuff right now I hve kinda lost track.

That, said I think a new install might be a good idea anyway since im probably missing some updates.  I might get it the 23rd so I have all day to set everything up.

Would be excellent, hope you're right!

I was looking at some website like PC benchmark that tests your system directly. Hope they're wrong.

did they test MSFS 2020 vs. MSFS 2024 Alpha on the same PC? what were the results?

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Hi, sorry, can't remember exactly now. It didn't compare 2020, it just spat out some results saying I didn't meet some of the minimum requirements for 2024.

Testing for 2020 though that same site said I at least meet all the minimum requirements, just not all of the recommended ones. I think it was this site:

https://www.pcgamebenchmark.com/

Anyway, I'm not into computers at all, so I'll wait a bit anyway. But it was still cool to read what you wrote.

I guess it's maybe a bit like with cars. I tend to drive mine until its a wreck, before buying a new one.

the slight difference: MSFS 2024 standard edition is only $ 70,- and will be so much more fun than MSFS 2020. I would recommend the Microsoft Game pass for 1 month for $ 10, which includes MSFS 2024 (only the standard edition), and see how it works for you and if you want to purchase the deluxe or premium deluxe version later.

and you can always adjust your slider settings in MSFS 2024 to find your personal best compromise between smooth performance and power of your pc, as usual.
