It touts optimization of your game library.

What I find strange is Nvidia released two drivers a week apart. Must have been a large bug.

I never install GFE or other bloatware just the driver nothing else. I really hope Nvidia will not force me to use this by some sneaky backdoor method.  Control panel has always worked great for

I don’t have a game library. I have P3Dv5. That’s it.

I'm using it too and haven't had any evident problems. I also used to follow the DDU Mantra but I'm tired of mantras and voodoos in flight simulation installs and uninstalls, very lazy these days 😁

At most from time to time and only due to simmer OCD, I may go ahead and manually clear the Nvidia shaders cache.

I should reinstall p3d V6 one of these days, and I look fwd to find a preset for it in the App... The App is the future and for the good and for the not so good... ahead appears to be the way...

So far there's none for P3Dv5. When I add it, it appears a message saying "program doesn't support optimization". Funnily, both FS9 or XP11 (which I also have installed) are neither supported.

Ray,

I have the SAME QUESTION!  What is the benefit of installing the NVidia App when I install new drivers?  I'm talking about P3dv5.4 (or whatever).  I have been NOT checking it when installing new drivers.  WHAT can I do in this app to improve P3d?  Anything?

As far as I can see Stan it’ won’t benefit P3D. If the OP can’t tell us then maybe someone else can. If you use Lossless Scaling I don’t see the point of anything else.

Well Ray, I guess I am the OP… I have been traveling and not following this thread on a day to day basis. But, now that I am caught up, I can tell you that I have received no benefit whatsoever from the new NVIDIA app. As another poster pointed out, it explicitly does not support P3D…

When I update the driver I go the long route, I.e. Nvidia.com. I download from there and do a  custom install so that I can put the driver anywhere but my overcrowded C Drive.

if the new driver causes problems, I roll back to the previous one.

The only good thing of the Nvidia app related to P3D is installing the driver. Nvidia made it look nice with a lot of buttons to use but have no effect on P3D. P3D even has a lock symbol on it. It is not supported or P3D does not want external programs to interfere.

Instead of having this big Nvidia App which will always try to get advertising data from you, you can just use NvCleaninstall, which as the name says, performs a clean install and avoids dxgi crashes.

@shermank, thanks for replying. As blaunarwal suggests NVCleanstall is the best way of installing drivers. I also use it. 👍

Thanks for the link to NVcleaninstall. I am not aware of this, but will DL and use it when I get home.

NEW EDIT

I read a review of the software and it essentially does what I have been doing all along.

i do a custom install, delisting those elements I do not need.

I do have a question about the Lossless scaling mentioned by Ray. I have my P3D v5.4 locked at 37fps, 1/2 my monitor refresh rate. Will lossless scaling improve my performance, which except for very complex scenery is all but rock steady.

One more note, I do not fly the heavy jets most of you pilot. My regular plane is Manfred Jahns's DC3 though i sometimes load up the Airplane Heaven freeware C/47 available from ORBX. That plane does drag down performance because of all its complexity.

i also fly the A2A Cessna 182, Carenado's  twin Piper Seneca and Milviz Dh2 for amphib bush flying. And, once in a while I load up the default Connie, which I am still learning to manage on TO without stalling.

so, with those parameters in my little sim world, advice is always appreciated.

thanks for bearing with me and reading this far.

Maybe not but it’s worth a try. All explained very well here.

Thanks for the tip on NV Cleaninstall.  Used it today for a new driver that it informed me of on my desktop.

Really smooth installation and I will definitely continue to use it.  EASY!

I bought and used lossless scaling. Frankly, I could not figure how it would improve my setup which has P3D locked at 37fps, half my non HDR monitor refresh rate.

and, for that matter since the current generation of Nvidia drivers have nothing AFAIK to benefit P3D what’s the reason to continue upgrading to the latest. Believe me, I am not a Luddite when it comes to computer technology….but, I have yet to see constant Nvidia driver updates of any benefits.
