Is this MSFS2024 anything other than a MS Moneygrab?

I just don’t get the psychology of people who jump over all the many and significant improvements to the flight experience to cite UI bugs as cause for the lead to not be proud of the team, oh no, but actually to be really ashamed.

It's a weird psychology indeed.. but perhaps not surprising if said people have a weird bitterness or triggers towards Asobo and/or Jorg and/or Jorg's smile. It's both adorable and comical watching them wait longingly for the chance to dump on Asobo or Jorg.

  • I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto gene

  • I would assume Ryan considered “troll” because only 47 posts AND your Hyperbolic  Headline concerning “Money Grabs”.  I assume you work for a living?  Bills to pay?  Kids to raise?  Sound like you?  W

  • Because people come here or lurk here for years with hardly any contributions... and then they wait for moments like this (this sim had a bad launch its no lie)... and come out with a post like this -

Because it's very basic items that are broken, I wouldn't be proud if I releaseda UI in this state and neither should Jorg.

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

There are quite a few changes, but they also weren't starting from scratch this time, so I don't expect the budget was even close to the original FS 2020. However, that doesn't really matter, my main concern is just I guess the areas I was hoping for weren't improved to me.

Now I can see the hardcore real pilots ignoring some stuff I wanted improved, like the colors and visuals of the ortho-imagery from higher up. I'm just not low enough often enough to appreciate all these changes, and to me a plane either flies or it doesn't, I dont use every little simulate shish-ka-bob in a plane.

So I guess its an improvement to some people, and not as much to others.

It's called having an opinion that differs from yours, shame you can't respect other opinions on this forum and have to go on the personal attack, I know you love to defend Asobo at every given opportunity but deep down even you must realise this has been an absolute car crash of a release.

No bitterness or weirdness here, just a completely unemotional observation.

I have done 3 "copy cat" flights now in both sims. Boise to Cascade in FS 2024, then in 2020, then in 2024 again. Then i did flights around Seattle and Walla Walla - WA State.

FS 2020 won in clouds, I posted screenshots, there is no way anyone could deny that FS 2020 was the winner for clouds and ground color in those flights. FS 2024 won down on the ground.

Now if some of my "copy cat" fights between 2020 and 2024 turn out differently this week, then I will let people know.

I will say in dense forests and flying very low, there are some improvements, especially for winter and some places in FALL.

Yet to be seen otherwise...

Hey, I saw your screenshots but my clouds look WAY better. Are you in North America? If not, you may still not be getting the full experience.

If you like, I can do the same flight that you do somewhere, and we can compare screenshots. It's an interesting thing seeing just how different this sim is for different people depending on who knows what!

This amount of variability is new in a game  - usually, most people with similar hardware have similar experiences, but this sim is all over the map.

I have a 5800X3d, 4090, 32 GB RAM, NVME, 1 Gbit fiber and am in Toronto. Sim has been working great for me - yes, I also see the bugs that other people see that are unrelated to the streaming bit (some buttons in various planes don't work, the lights are weird, ATC can be odd (surprise!) and so on), but I don't have the bandwidth issues from day 1 and a bit of day 2

Great, so I stated my opinion on your opinion 🤷‍♂️, welcome to discussion forums... I know you love to dump on Asobo and Jorg especially (and weirdly), as you've shown yourself to do again and again, and now after the 2024 release with your unreasonable takes and hyperbole against them. I've already stated multiple times what a clusterf*** the launch day was, and the bugs are evident, doesn't take a genius to figure that out. But as Scotchegg and others rightly noted, your takes on Jorg and Asobo are... interesting to say the least.

I know you fashion yourself as knowing more than MS/Asobo leadership and how the sim should be project-managed (spoiler alert: you don't), but do you have actual insights about how the release panned out? Do you know for a fact that Asobo and Jorg intended to release with these bugs on Nov 20th come hell or high water, or perhaps it's more likely that MS leadership forced the date? Do you know really how Jorg and/or Asobo actually feel about all this and whether they are proud or ashamed or whatever else? Spoiler alert again, you don't 🙂

Money grab? I went on Avsim to ask a few decent questions and now I am here feeding the trolls.

Not a money grab. It was nearly 20 minutes downloading and installing before I was flying in free flight. Clouds, scenery look good .....good performance too

I am in the Western US, I have clouds at high instead of ultra I think. Could be my settings, but I think the ground textures are off too.

My rig is a 3080 (12GB ver) with 64 GB ram and a standard AMD 5800 with NVME 4.

Is there a settings thread everyone is using, or should I create one.

In my limited time with MSFS 2024, it seems to run much better with my aging rig i9-10850K, 32GB 3200Mhz, 1TB Samsung NVME, RTX 3080. I am able to now play it in full screen 4K @30FPS in Ultra settings. So at least for me I have seen some improvement, performance wise over MSFS 2020.

After yesterday's debacle (for which heads should roll), aside from the gimmics and 'gameplay' that Asobo seems to think attracts Joe Public, it would be interesting to learn of anything in this release that would not have been possible to  introduce via upgrading (as has happened over the past 4 years) various sections of the 2020 program.

Uh, no, heads should not roll.

This is a game.

The demand for it was obviously FAR greater than anticipated (and MS have shown they pay attention to metrics).

While I'm sure it was/is stressful for them, they're probably popping bottles of champagne as the $$$ rolls in

And they deserve it.

We'll all have our game soon enough, just like in v2020.

Mine has been running without issue since yesterday, to the point where I nuked v2020 today. And guess what, if v2024 has issues now or in the future, I have 3 other flight sims upon which to fall back.

///

Asobo were declarative that the improvements in v2024 were simply not possible with the original code base, and that they had taken it about as far as it could go.

So, while all the improvements might seem easy and deliverable as an upgrade, there are many intangible ones that were obviously not.

It feels like a free to play game with infinite flight characteristics. It’s not even half as good as 2020. What else could it be?

Patently untrue.

All good if it doesn't meet your standards, but its a far better sum than v2020 was.

Running well for me since yesterday, having a great time exploring all the new content & features.

And what were they trying to achieve? because from where I standing 2020 is a far more stable and solid experience. So they want you to not actually fly the planes but walk about on the ground looking for animals? Is that their vision?

It's not any worse than the v2020 launch.

Yeah, it was better it seems.

Asobo/MS have embraced the community and have even absorbed some of these folks into Asobo. Working Title and FlyByWire, for example

Just for clarity, Fly By Wire have not been "absorbed" in any capacity by MS/Asobo. They are an independent freeware team.
