Is this MSFS2024 anything other than a MS Moneygrab?

It's called having an opinion that differs from yours, shame you can't respect other opinions on this forum and have to go on the personal attack, I know you love to defend Asobo at every given opportunity but deep down even you must realise this has been an absolute car crash of a release.

That is the real strange thing about this. Any concerns prior to the release were generally meant with scorn. Any comments pointing out the problems on launch, again met with scorn. I think this is really more of the censorship mentality we’ve witnessed the past few years, where every opposing view is shouted down, with attempts to silence those voices. It isn’t like we were wrong about any of this, but the same voices are rewriting history, and moving the goalposts. All because our opinions don’t line up with theirs. It is a very strange phenomenon, especially considering that those of us commenting on this situation have been mostly positive about the future of this project, and we have not been overly critical of the team. Hey, stuff happens and we cut them slack for that. As a software developer with 30+ years experience, i find launches like this one very intriguing, especially when one launches in spectacular fashion like this one. It is a curiosity because over my career i have seen a few bad launches. They almost always involve a human failure at some point, and i doubt this is an exception. Some suit said we are launching, regardless. That is my guess.

I am not sure why anyone would expect a different response from members of this, or any other public forum. People here turn every mention of PMDG into a mud slinging contest. Almost all threads go off the rails within a few posts. Expecting civil discussion here is a bridge way too far. People here don’t like being proven wrong. It is an ego thing. They just cannot admit when they are wrong, so they twist themselves up in knots convincing themselves they are right. Personally, i find it pretty hysterical.

  • I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto gene

  • I would assume Ryan considered “troll” because only 47 posts AND your Hyperbolic  Headline concerning “Money Grabs”.  I assume you work for a living?  Bills to pay?  Kids to raise?  Sound like you?  W

  • Because people come here or lurk here for years with hardly any contributions... and then they wait for moments like this (this sim had a bad launch its no lie)... and come out with a post like this -

2024 is my favorite flightsim. 2020 is second best. FSX third. Color me happy (Aviators edition). And 2024 loads up almost twice as fast as 2020 (2 and half minutes compared to 5 and a quarter minutes). A new flight with FLY starts in 10 seconds instead of 45, etc. Built in EFB. Ray tracing upgrade, denser resolution sceneries, 3D vegetation....

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

No it's not a money grab it's spectacular. Does it need work? Yes. But I'll be deleting 2020.

The problems are vast, it seems rushed, major developers are having problems integrating their products, especially PMDG. It all feels like a disaster with only a minority claiming everything is fine. It may have "improvements" but I have to ask, was it needed now? Just as 2020 had found a stable footing, just as PMDG, Bluebird, FBW and others had launched major products or are close to. Why not MSFS2028 or 2026? Rockstar games usually have a 5-10 year gap on their major releases. Now they've put themselves in a corner. Should we expect MSFS2024 to just be getting on its feet and settling down, 4 or 5 months before the next release? Because on the evidence we have to go on, that seems to be a real possibility.

It feels like a rush job and a badly organised release so I can understand why some people think its more about maximising profits because of corporate overlord pressure. Why not get things right before a release of this magnitude? Whether thats preparing servers properly, streamlining the experience for core users or delivering on promises. I genuinely don't think the team were thinking just about profit but on the current evidence it looks very like the people above them were.

For all those on their high horses a few months ago, pontificating to the doubters about what Jorg said in a live stream or what the Sim would do out of the box, let this be a lesson to you. The hype and sales pitches that precede a major AAA release are tired and old these days, you'd do better to take it all with a pinch of salt.

Bingo! There it is! Our first 'I'm being cancelled' comment of this launch. And from the guy who likes to use the word 'triggered' with others.

Seriously, you're just being disagreed with. You may find it uncomfortable, you may not experience it much in your offline life, but that's all it is. Nobody is trying to silence you or rewrite history (especially if the history you're talking about is you claiming MS were lying about the tech alpha and that was actually the final version).

Great, so I stated my opinion on your opinion 🤷‍♂️, welcome to discussion forums... I know you love to dump on Asobo and Jorg especially (and weirdly), as you've shown yourself to do again and again, and now after the 2024 release with your unreasonable takes and hyperbole against them. I've already stated multiple times what a clusterf*** the launch day was, and the bugs are evident, doesn't take a genius to figure that out. But as Scotchegg and others rightly noted, your takes on Jorg and Asobo are... interesting to say the least.

I know you fashion yourself as knowing more than MS/Asobo leadership and how the sim should be project-managed (spoiler alert: you don't), but do you have actual insights about how the release panned out? Do you know for a fact that Asobo and Jorg intended to release with these bugs on Nov 20th come hell or high water, or perhaps it's more likely that MS leadership forced the date? Do you know really how Jorg and/or Asobo actually feel about all this and whether they are proud or ashamed or whatever else? Spoiler alert again, you don't 🙂

Predictable response but I'll leave it there, little point carrying on with you just like the other well known Asobo Fan Club Member 😉 as it'll just go round and round and round in circles 🙂

its halarious people are rage melting down over a poor MS product launch. Have any FS titles ever launched acceptable out of the box? NO!  Ive been here since FS 95, and dont ever recall using the new version until at least 1 yr after launch. Look at 2020 , it became decent about a yr in and still needed countless updates into 2024.  Go back to 2020 enjoy it, its polished works well, has Tons of amazing addons to enjoy while 2024 is being fixed.

From what i observed yesterday, this sim will become as, if not better than 2020, but it's going to take time. Now that i am able to see it working as it should, and without the glaring bandwidth issues (VPN sorted that for me). The ground handling is far better, you no longer swerve about the runway on touchdown, You do have a real sense of inertia The scenery is stunning, there's no, and i mean no stuttering at all, whether sitting in a que at Heathrow, Flying Downtown in the likes of New York, London, LA. This was just not possible before. Now the issues, mostly around the Aircraft, quite a few have bugs, or seem to for me, the A330 for example, i can release the handbrake, Yet it wont move, chock's are removed, the handbrake moves as it should. I get a CTD if i select a certain version of the A330,. Stupid annoying bugs, that are hopefully taken care of soon.

Is your experience then that IS a sim, not just a game?

It is also hilarious how a company of Microsoft caliber and revenue; built a streaming game that can not actually stream / loading for many of its customers.

It certainly felt  a lot more sim like. Still a lot to sort, with bugs. But given time i am far more optimistic than day1-2

There are issues, but I finally had a good flight (Flight # 6), from Innsbruck (LOWI) to Venice (LIPZ).

Once I got below about 5000 feet, the textures over the flatlands just before you hit the coast were definitely next level. Did not have the same problems as before with messed up clouds. This area looks incredibly amazing, especially the farms just before you hit venice.

I saw some animals running around (but hard to tell what they were).

However, when trying to fly the Airbus - A400M, no autopilot, no elevator controls, and when in the mountains the turbulence got unrealistic shooting me from 0 vertical FPM to well over +5000 FPM in less than 2 seconds. That would be one heck of a thermal to make a plane go up that fast.

I don't know this plane though, so maybe some of it was user error, but I'm guessing it was some bugs.

At least one positive experience, now going to try career mode.

The PC and XBox versions should be separate. That would save the developers and the end users a lot of grief. The interfaces are different and the experience should be optimized for both without interfering with the other. They would both share the underlying flight simulator engine.

Um. NOPE.

It would definitely make it more of a headache for the devs, and quite frankly, the interface might be designed for a console, but it's perfectly adequate for the PC.

I'm not really sure how it could be "optimized" for the PC, unless you mean you want it to go back to v2020 or P3D or something...

Even X-Plane is going more towards a "console"-ish interface, etc.

NOTE that I'm not in love with the interface, but it works fine and I just don't care enough to let a new UI irritate me.

Thats really not a big deal to add into a game at close up lod, i could knock up those rocks in blender in 10 mins . its a texture wrap around a 3d model... so what?

But you could never do it for the entire planet.

No and ASOBO haven't either, when you are playing the little gamey side quests and not in free flight, at that point it just streams what you need for that quest, hence better FPS. At that point though it isn't open world like free flight, its a first person shooter on rails... that is how they have done it.

I mean gaming is all just smoke and mirrors anyway, but cutting it up into little gamey quests isn't for me and that seems to be the biggest draw to this game... so i'll wait till a sale i think, i been playing MSFS 2020 more than ever, its reignited it for me, literally you can see the 'quests' on youtube streams then simply do them in 2020... but in free flight so i could at any point go a different way and end up miles away....
