Change your 2024 Community folder location!

Highly recommended as it seems to send it to your C drive

Go to the Marketplace, then My Library, click the tiny settings gear icon and change it to wherever you want.  If you look in Windows explorer you'll see three new folders.  You may have to restart the sim once to get the three folders.

It works because I just tried the Black Square Duke in 2024

THANKS for THIS!

  • The download function is currently disabled as they work through marketplace/server issues. Should be enabled once these are working. Maybe a few weeks? Maybe sooner. Hard to say. (maybe months!!)

  • Select the place where you want the new Community folder to be...  so in my case I had installed MSFS 2024 on my D drive.  Here:  D:\MSFS In the sim I clicked on that location and exited the sim.

Bert,

Did you delete the package folder on the C drive

No, it still there, but empty.

Bert

Hi,

Be careful!

I changed the path of my Community folder to the drive I have installed MS2024.

But, later (and not related to that, I suppose) I had a CTD and MS2024 reverted the Community folder to the C drive!

Greetings

3 NEW folders are:

Community

Official2020

Official2024

Mine are now located to where I told 2024 to move them to, using Ryan's top message.

Open msfs2024, Marketplace, SMALL options wheel, and then what you see in the top message above will appear.

Drop whatever you wish in Community2024 and it will load into 2024. Move stuff in and out of Community manually or using Addon Linker (the latest version of AoL on flightsim.to, he has instructions for 2024 there).

I went ahead an moved the folders to my D Drive, and all seems to be working fine. Question: Am I crazy or is the "Official" folder empty? As of now, I have no data in any of the three folders (I didn't before I moved them either), but this seems strange.

Cheers, Pete

Why is that strange? This is the folder where the official aircraft or POI's of the Worldupdates used to be. As long as you only stream them in, why should there be any files for them on your computer?

By the way I have question for those of you who own the sim:

Is there a way to switch off default bespoke airports in case you own 3rd party Payware of the same Airport?

Like how you would deinstall them in the Content manager in MSFS before installing another one of the same airport.

Pete, just wondering on the packages/community folder: For instance PMDG 737 has a file in Packages (pmdg-aircraft-738) and then has files in Community. (pmdg-aircraft-738) and (pmdg-aircraft-738-liveries) My question is do you point to the Packages folder or the Community folder in Addon Linker...? When I point 2024 to the 2020 community folder the 737 will run but when I create a new Community folder and move those 737 files over it will not run. Confusing enough?

Got it. I think the part I missed was that none of these files that were housed on my PC for 2020 are now actually housed on my PC, so for 2024, there are ALL streamed and not physically stored on my computer?

I haven't added anything yet as far as third party addons, so I am not certain as to what the correct process is yet. I am of course curious as to how this will compare to 2020 once there is a new Addon Linker for 2024.

Correct. I believe they said that you can chose to install any aircraft you like on your local computer instead. So I assume there might be an option in the content manager to do just that. And then they would probably go to the "official" folder.

Interesting, I guess there is a bit of learning curve with 2024. Good thing I get thanksgiving week off!

The Official folder content is what now is in the cloud. However from what I hear, once the marketplace and content manager becomes available in the sim, then you will be able to move stuff from the cloud to Official, if you want to do that. I read that online in a message somewhere, so I can't be sure. But I think that's why there is an official folder put on your system.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I suspect that every msfs2024 purchaser has an official folder in the cloud dedicated to only him. And this is why once you can log into 2024 and start it up, then from that point on it becomes much faster and less failure issues to start the sim. But the first time you start 2024 it is busy creating your dedicated official folder and this is what takes up so much resources, doing all that for everybody on the 19th. All I know for sure is that after waiting hours the first time, from then on 2024 launches so very much faster than 2020 ever did for me. And I have no connection issues at all after that first time when I waited forever.
