MSFS2024 Performance - your thoughts?

These airports were barely optimized for 2020 and now you're using them in a new version of the sim coded to a different sdk standard and wondering why the performance is off.

Ah, I didn't know about 2020, it was going well, it seems to me, it's been a long time since I flew on one of their stages (in Poland) I don't know how it was about 2020, but about 2024 and especially at night it's hell but it's not just there

  • I just recieved my new 5600X3D and indeed it's a game changer... for MSFS2020. On 2024 I still have serious performance issues, and looks like I'm not the only one having them (thanks for your comment

i5-13600K and RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM, Samsung SSD here. And a not great 8MB ADSL.

2020 had become unplayable due to stuttering. Nothing helped, certainly not dialling down graphics even to low-end and I wasted hours tinkering - the old main thread thing I think.

2024 is smooth and chilled at Medium and just useable but choppy at Ultra for tasty screenshots. Yes I have less than ideal LOD popping sometimes (especially in dense urban areas of course, but I'm a country boy really) and I need to be patient with the streaming when  entering new areas.

The performance improvement for me has been staggering. I'd all but given up on 2020 and went for 2024 on a whim and a one euro PC Game Pass. I'm sorry that's not been everyone's experience but if your system is like mine, I'd say it's worth a go. I don't do airliners, not yet anyway, so if that's what you want you can ignore me.

I'm 50 hours into career mode, and there have been a few glitches, but overall I love it. Especially the fact that it provides opportunities to fly planes you'd never pick to places you wouldn't have thought of. As an example I was tasked to deliver a Robin DR400 to EGET Tingwall to FEA Fetlar as the sun was setting. Only a 5 mile trip but very memorable simming. It took me  a few tries as you can see (25-30 knot winds and a runway built on a sort of berm).

I had barely touched the DR400 in 2020, finding it sluggish, but this version is fun to fly.

Evidently you are comparing a totally fkd up installation of 2020 with a fresh 2024. No way MSFS would run like that on your system on low settings.

Even more so with an 8 MBit ADSL (!), I would expect 2020 to look and run much better than 2024. I see 10-50 MBit used, with 80 Mbit peaks sometimes.

Do yourself a favor and try to clean-install MSFS again... just to try 🙂

7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

This is the first sim I've played for a long time that I haven't had to tweak to be happy with the performance.  😊

But it's early days, haven't got a lot of 3rd party airports installed yet.  But very promising 👌

Perhaps it's fexked, but the original installation (on release) took about 2 weeks because of slow internet and the download looping bug. I have no appetite for going through that again, especially since I am having such fun in 2024, and my favourite aircraft (A2A Comanche) already works there.

Me too. I just let the NVidia app thing do its optimize thing. Glad to concentrate on flying not fiddling with settings and PC internals.

I find it much worse on the ground. Gaya EICK Cork with no AI is struggling to hit 30fps in ‘24. The same airport in ‘20 is pegged hard at 30 with gates full of AI. Same with others I’ve tested. Plus the whole outside world seems choppy - again is this the sim or the streaming? Things seem to be fine once flying and the experience is very nice. But then once you make an approach it becomes choppy and not so great. I’m hoping things will improve.

My Frame Rates are fine - but I have found with the same settings as 2020 - 2024 has much more stutter and by and large the LOD graphics arent as good.   I load up every few days to see whats changed - not much in my case so far.   Until custom airports are much more compatible with 2024 my main flying will still be done in 2020 - but I will check back in on the next major patch thats upcoming.   Still have so much to setup (keyboard bindings - FSUPIC - Gamepad settings and such) it still feels like its going to be a bit before I really feel like using 2024.

Many problems with the default airplanes like the TBM and the A3xx inibuilds, but the good news is that the Fenix is running very well and the CPU stopped the temps spikes with my usually 60fps at 60°C. My 3080 with 12 GB vram is running at about 75% and 9Gb vram. The sim is running superfluid and smooth.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Ditto for me Claudius.  I came here to post a similar message.  Leaving PDX this morning heading to Dallas was stunning in its beauty, fluidity and Fenix a319 performance.  I’m having a BLAST right now.

I have 2060 super, i7 9700k@5000, 32 GB ram and it's stable 30 with almost everything maxed Tlod is 200 Olod 150. Relatively smooth. I'm content. Very content.

Thanks Asobo & Microsoft!

Frame rates are plenty high enough for me in the 30-60 range but there is always a constant micro stutter the whole time, most noticeable when looking out the sides.

Alnost unbelievable with those specs

Probably low resolution settings !!

2880x1620, Dlss/quality on a 110cm TV

PS if i activate Loseless scaling app, i get solid 60 fps, but some stutters as well, so I don't.

I set cache to 512GB, so loading textures is imperceptible.

Your graphs are very interesting.  Thanks for posting.  Can you tell me the following about your setup?
+ PC RAM
+ GPU VRAM
+ Screen size and resolution
+ Other performance and graphics settings that affect these performance measurements that you can think of.

THANKS!
