If that is true, I really hope that it is not a permanent feature. How can they possibly think that a philosophy like that is acceptable in a flight simulator, when immersion is everything? Who wants to see aircraft and ships appearing as if by magic when you are almost on top of them?

Cause it’s all about the sales!

MS does not care if you have a super computer because you are an extreme minority.

To get this out to the masses it has to play well while streamed on your average middle of the road pc and on the Xbox!

  • That needs to be changed.

  • It's being worked on

  • We can add that to the list of things Asobo did that make us all scratch our head LOL   Not saying I haven't read a lot of positives but some of the changes seem illogical and more of a change th

Not true.

And that it is not true has been discussed in this very thread before. So you might want to read it before repeating something that is false. 😉

Look at the PC specification in my signature. That is a 2015 specification, and yet it can run MSFS 2020 extremely well at relatively high detail levels. As I have indicated before, they have more power to spare than they think.

So far, with nameplates on, i can see the sim receives a lot of data (the name of the ships shows up), however the 3d models loaded are few, mostly smaller tugs, and they are loaded too close to the airplane.

So for now i think i'll deactivate it and just use Ship traffic for Italian Coastlines, which was released on the usual site.

From what I have seen in videos and read about, since everything is streamed they can reduce the user experience like lowering level of detail and reducing texture quality, and eliminating or reducing traffic in order to accommodate more users.

That’s not it at all

They don’t do any culling like that. The LOD distance on the new ship models is just really low for some reason.

Ive not seen that happen with live air traffic.

This is also not true. You can turn off air traffic models in the graphics settings

Also not true because the Xbox version runs on customized settings.

This doesn’t happen with their AI air traffic models, they don’t just pop in like the sea traffic. It’s specifically an issue with just the sea traffic’s models

  • 3 weeks later...

The ship trafic is totally broken. Only somehow working item is a ship name plates, but lots of ships are missing when compared to Marine Trafic data.

Ships becomes visible very late and in most of the cases they are invisible.

Quite many ships are hovering like a copter.

Ship models are 100% wrong ( type, size etc.).

I have not seen moving ships on route. If the ship is moving it is just rotates.

GAIS works fine in 2024. Just turn off the live Asobo ships. And maybe the live air traffic which is borked anyway?

Why did they even bother with the ships? Is it because they are live, and somehow linked to real world ship traffic? I would have thought that GAIST is more than enough to satisfy the requirements of most flight simmers......unless of course they are thinking about this "Digital Twin Earth" concept.

Is there any other setting(s) in MSFS2024 that you have to enable in order to see GAIST ship traffic?

Have you used XPlane to see how far out one can see live air traffic?

I load up an aircraft in XP12 at Heathrow airport. The add-on used is 'LiveTraffic'.  One can see several aircraft on the ILS AND aircraft on base, downwind and in the four holds

Load up MSFS with PSXT and you can only see air traffic out a few miles.  Even if the aircraft itself is still quite large, it will just disappear. One, maybe two aircraft can be seen on the ILS and nothing beyond. Departing traffic disappears shortly after take off

This is the one issue in MSFS that has bugged me since release.

Nope. It works. You need both the routes folder installed as well as the core folder. I don't think it works perfectly as there are no wakes and the ships seem to sit oddly in the water but it's miles better than the Asobo default.
