Career mode thoughts

Featured Replies

I really like the rescue helicopter missions. I just wish they‘d make them more realistic. In one of the missions the rescue guy said I should get the chopper in the air as quickly as possible, what with it being an emergency and all, but then ATC - apparently mistaking me for a plane - advised me to taxi to the runway, backtrack it, and then take off. Of course I ignored that and just took off from the helipad. On the way back the same thing. Didn‘t they say they had been working with experts to make sure the missions were realistic? Anyway, it‘s still a lot of fun.

  • Lots of Career complaints floating around. Not being able to pick the plane you want to use is a biggie for me.

I've found that a lot of the missions have bugs.  I just did 3 First Flight missions in the 172: the first on penalized me because I didn't have landing lights on for a night flight (it was a sunny afternoon); the next on placed my 172 on a rooftop helicopter pad, and the last one has me take off and land on a closed runway (with a big X). Not impressed! If these are AI created, then the algorithm needs a LOT of work.

You can actually see some jumpers on way down - which is kind of add to immersion.

Wait, what?! I've never even seen skydivers in the plane, much less actually parachuting. I'd been assuming we were just supposed to imagine that part. Is there a setting I'm missing or something?

Mmm not sure! After I "preflight" and you get in cockpit, I press ENTER. Then I see see animation of jumper boarding mine plane. BTW They talk during flight LOL After I  signal they jump. I actually can see them get out airplane and jump. And if I'm lucky going down I see their shute. Actually it's pretty cool!

I also discovered you can get rid of those sky-tunnel boxes with a key assignment, which is great. It does keep the blue glowy boxes to tell you where you're supposed to end up, which is handy for parking since the voice just says GA parking but not necessarily *where* in GA parking, but you lose the taxi ribbon, the markers and the sky boxes.

What's the key assignment for that?

Huh. Yeah, I hear them talking in the plane (oh God, who wrote that dialog?) but I don't see them board or jump out. Maybe it decided my system's too low powered to show me that stuff. I'll have to poke around, that's interesting.

Is that only in the Caravan? I did the first skydiving mission in the 172 and there were no animated skydivers but I could hear them. Restarting the mission didn‘t help. weird.

No it's also in the Cessna. I don't have my Turboprop rating yet, so I have to do those Skydivemissions in the 172.

How do you get the skydivers to jump when in Free Flight?

I'm really enjoying the new sim and really enjoy career mode, but I've decided to leave it be for now. I was dabbling with it all week having a great time until yesterday. Yesterday I did my first special mission and received an S. When the game exited back to the HQ screen it crashed. When I reloaded the game and reentered career mode my pilot rating was degraded from a high B to a mid C.

😞

This morning I was in  the middle of my first career mode mission since yesterday's crash  and the game crashed again.

😞

I'm too scared to even look at my pilot rating now 😞

Can't wait for the sim to be patched up because it is a immersive part of the sim when you start getting into the higher tiers.

Agreed on your first point. As to your second, once you have your night and interment certifications you can then fly with real time and real weather.

I was just coming to ask that, are all missions thereafter available with Real Time/Live Weather? I hate the Preset Scenario start (just completed my PPL)

Yes, but with a caveat.

Whether by design, or more likely bug, the time remains unaffected.

I did a flight this noon with the correct stormy weather but the date was 22nd of August in the morning.

Having not started career, what exactly does one's rating do?

A higher pilot rating is supposed to give you a better selection of missions. Haven't experienced enough of the content to see how good or bad it works.
