Bijan's for 2024

Please explain yourself.

I own exactly two Simmarket add-ons that I currently use in 2024, one of which is FSRealsitic, which has its own built-in updater. I really don't need an additional app forced on me just to keep one add-on up to date. The same goes for every other vendor out there, I'm not interested in maintaining 10 different apps just to keep a few add-ons up to date.

Is there a specific reason why the 1.8 update is only available via the Simmarket app? I would like to avoid such distributor bloatware where I can.

Throughout my five-year experience with them, I've encountered no issues or bloatware, whatsoever Their customer service is consistently dependable, and updates are almost instant.
The offered app streamlines the installation process, directly into the community folder and is well-received by many.
Regardless of the source or method provided, individual preferences inevitably lead to differing opinions and requests for alternatives.

If you prefer, you do not need the Simmarket App to install Bijan's mod.  You can download it directly from your downloads on the Simmarket website and install it yourself.

Not anymore, unfortunately. V1.8 is exclusively available via the app, it says on my order page.

I wondered what that was all about. I didn't bother purchasing anything due to the forced app download.

When vendors force these apps on us I'll usually avoid buying a product. If I do buy the product anyway, I will install the app then the product, and afterward I will uninstall the app and run a registry clean.

These apps are a major reason I now mostly purchase from the in-game marketplace.

I brought this product and like the ease of the app. About once a week as MSFS2024 comes online, I'll open the Orbx, Contrail and now, Sim Market apps and just look for any new updates or installs. I find this way more streamlined then starting the sim or addon only to get a pop-up stating that theres an new update which requires me to close the app, close the sim and start all over again so I usually just skip the update at that time with the idea that I'll do it after the flight. Only to forget about it and go through the whole rinse and repeat for serval flights before I cave.

Edit: For a product like this, the alternative or what was the norm was get an email, or discover in a post that theres an update, then try and remember where I brought it, go to their website, then have to to through the whole sign in to see my account, find the order and search for the link. Download, unzip, copy and paste. With this its one click to open the app, one click to install.

Of course, if you buy something from the marketplace, even this routine can go away.

I've got enough apps "calling home" on my PC already. I really don't want another one clogging up my CPU cycles and WI-FI connection😉

I have a fair amount of stuff from the marketplace, so I enjoy how that works to my benefit as well. However, while not long term, even it has its issues as when recently moving to 2024, I've been at the mercy of them to release the products I lease to try out in the sim. All in all, since FS2020, us end users have certainly seen improvements in ways to keep products updated in various wrappers, outlets and such over how it used to be further back in simming history.

I've updated my Bijan products immediately up until now. With this change, I'm dithering.

Time to put the add-on on the flightsim.to marketplace. That site gives a full choice between app and browser for downloads.

This is an issue that pre-dates msfs.

Almost as a rule, large sim reinstalls had become a nightmare, as people dug through old files looking for passwords or even just a reminder of exactly where they had even purchased that thingy that had been residing on their systems for years and now they can't quite remember which store they got it from. Then you have to download and reinstall the various installers, hoping you still remember the activation serial number(s)....

Or that the store is still open: or that you purchase has not been transferred to a different vendor.

It could literally take days (or more) to restore a sim that had gone down for whatever reason, and probably pretty understandably, thats left behind lots of bad memories. I think I even recall Avsim trying to address the issue once by offering some sort of universal installer. The memory is hazy, and the endeavor apparently went nowhere.

Anyways, I finally downloaded the latest Bijan update yesterday.

But I was not a happy camper.
