MSFS2024 performance

Featured Replies

I have been promised 2024 for Christmas and am wondering whether I will see any great improvements considering I mainly use the sim for VFR free flight (C152 and C172).

I've seen higher resolution mesh, trees along with better lighting and weather.  TLOD also looks like it's better, but ground textures look quite similar to me.

A big question for me is are you seeing significantly improved performance (FPS and smoothness) with similar settings?  From the videos I've seen, this would appear a lot more marginal than I was expecting from a sim that is supposed to have been completely rewritten from the ground.

When I tried it, I did not. You can try it it out. YMMV

Who said it was completely rewritten from the ground? It‘s just an improved and enhanced engine.

As for your question, I think it‘s hard to say because I‘ve yet to try e.g. the Fenix at iniBuilds KJFK with 100 AI traffic or something similar. But in general it feels like it is a bit smoother, less-stuttering in general. But this could change on the heavy addons come in

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I’m primarily VFR and I’ve flown the C172 a lot this last week - cause there’s not much else to fly at the moment - and in my opinion overall performance in 2024 is much improved over 2020.

Bugs wise, that’s a very different story at the moment…..

Quite the contrary.

I believe that who sees improvements was previously mainthread limited.

Who was already GPU limited before, sees a drastic drop in fps. See the VR folks.

For me it runs even smoother than fs 2020, even more considering the increased level of details at least in scenery and weather.

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

For me there has been a significant decrease in TLOD, terrain texture quality, and performance

I finally did my first "real-like" flight today after learning the interface and its quirks enough to operate an aircraft somewhat properly! I would say performance is the same or a little better than 2020 but the visual quality is much improved, especially the lighting and the sky.

I noticed last night just how much ram it uses. Between 2024, FSHUD and a few browser windows I was pulling 29gigs of memory. 17 of that was MSFS 2024.

Overall performance improvement has been great on my side, especially just smoothness has improved massively.

Yea, it seems to be much better at using the resources of my pc, cpu, gpu and memory. My flight was very smooth and looked great in the cloudy, snowy weather of northern Wisconsin.
