Avoiding Stutters On And Near Airports

Featured Replies

I’m struggling with big stutters/pauses on or near airports, especially large ones.

For example, I head down the runway at KLAX and JERK JERK JERK all of these pauses as airport objects load in (the same thing happens when on approach to even a lackluster default airport like KBUR).

I’ve improved matters a lot by turning off ALL air traffic so no planes try to load in, and I’m trying a target FPS of 60 in the graphics settings.

I experienced this in 2020 and even experience it a bit in XP12, but was hoping that true multi-threading would have fixed it? (But maybe it’s not the CPU being challenged).

Any tips or solutions for others experiencing this?

10900K, 3070, 32GB RAM.

Thanks…

Try reducing the TLOD and LOD, until you reach the maximum values where you no longer have stuttering.

Your problem is probably that 60 target in settings. Reset it to 35 or so, no more stutters, I predict. It's that way with me, anyhow.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

TLOD seems to be the killer near airports. Try 100. Still looks good.

I've got the same specs as you except a 3080 on the frame gen app.

I appreciate all of your responses and will continue experimenting - so far it's a "no go" - even taxiing the default 737 Max through LAX is nothing but very HARD pauses.

Not sure if this is the CPU being hit or my GPU but again, I'll keep playing with settings.

Post removed - my reply was 2020 specific, and the OP is having the issue in 2024.

Cheers,

Scott

I'm seeing stutters in city areas too and it seems to coincide with an increased rate of streaming going on.

May it's a Wisconsin issue for just the two of us? 🙂

I used DynamicLOD in FS2020 but that does not work in FS2024, so after a lot of experimentation its back to doing it manually. So, a TLOD of 100 on the ground with a manual change to 220 on climbout. On approach, a switch back to 100 and a smooth stutter free landing and taxi to my parking spot. Yes, it is a little bit cumbersome but not  overly so to make those manual changes but it's worth it and just part of the workflow.

The dynamic setting in the SIM works poorly for me so I found it needs to stay off. I am hoping that eventually Reset will adapt the DynamicLOD app for FS2024. I also like to use the frame rate cap in NVCP, but the whole Nvidia app is kind of borked right now and the cap isn't working for me along with Nvidia filters so hopefully that will change soon.

A bit of a learning curve but it's always like that with a new sim.

Hopefully its just the game needs a bunch of patching.

Lowering settings WAY down helps but does not completely rid of stutters.

This worked for me it may work for you as well.

So how can I get rid of that pull down menu ?

Hi,

Create another center view via the experimental menu, you should end up with two front views. Minimize the front screen that has the menu/toolbar and fly from the experimental front view window.

Nice demo man. This bug kind of reminds me of when I ran triple screen in fsx (although it's also a single screen issue). If I ran native full screen whenever the mouse appeared on screen the sim tanked. If put in windowed mode or full screen borderless with an app the mouse caused no issues. It stinks of poor optimisation because SOMETHING is going on in the background that you can't see with that task bar. It may be 'hidden' but it's certainly not disabled when hidden.

The idea that the sim with 2 windows initialized (with only one visible) runs smoother than one is crazy.
