Photogrammetry: why the difference in how it looks?

Featured Replies

I just watched a video, posted here https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/660173-open-mind-msfs-2024/page/4/#findComment-5310221 and while watching it noticed how good the photogrammetry looked in this video compared to mine.

As an example i take the WTC tower in NYC.

From the video:

Now mine:

and

Mine always looked like the 2 last screenshots, now in 2024 and also in 2020. They just look ugly, even with OLOD set to 400.
However, it seems possible to have good looking photogrammetry looking the first screenshot.
What's the trick? I never found it in 2020 and still have the same issue in 2024. I'm just curious how to get it right...

The author of that video has just confirmed that he has SamScene New York City Times installed. This is a rather good example of why I do not really like photogrammetry. If I had to accept building models that looked like that everywhere, I would be looking for another flight simulator.

Also I don't think that Samscence has been updated for 2024 yet.

Based on that video, it seems to be working very well in MSFS 2024.

EDIT: I think that you may have misunderstood my comment. I was referring to the awful look of the WTC Tower in those screenshots posted by Lange_666!

It's time shifting extrapolation.  Your sim is showing you what New York City will look like in 2028...

In general re: photogrammetry: TLOD needs to be high enough for the objects/buildings to be rendered fully (OLOD does not affect this). TLOD 200 is probably enough at low altitude. Also, bandwidth is important - if the connection to the servers aren't good enough (those "bandwidth not enough" messages), PG objects might get that melted look.

Even with a TLOD of 360 and OLOD of 250 it still looks the same.
It isn't really melted (I saw those to already) but to me it's a texture of a reflection (in the glass of the WTC tower) but that's pasted all over the tower (and other glass buildings in general).
Didn't look nice in 2020, still doesn't look nice in 2024.

Strange. This is from a flight I did yesterday in 2024. I think I used a TLOD of 200.

Honestly for me, considering the alternative of generic rectangles in cities I know well, the photogrammetry is a good trade-off when you're not getting the infamous "melted buildings" I see so many complain about.

In cities that I don't know very well or at all, rectangles with the occasional famous landmark are.... fine.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
