What MSFS 2024 got right

Do you have any source details for MSFS's use of this?

they mentioned GPU programming in one of their joint MSFS 2020 launch announcements back in summer 2019 I think it was that got my attention. and their plans to offload as much as  possible from the CPU to the GPU. since then I have observed an enormous increase in GPU load up to 99% now that could not be attributed to some more enhanced graphics functions alone. with all the added detail in terrain geometry, wind vectors, more complex flight model calculations, vegetation and particles, you have to ask yourself how can these additional compute intensive features be added and yet at the same time fps increased and stutters reduced (apart from some temporary latency unfortunately,  introduced by going to all server streaming) when CPU load was increased only slightly?

As a GA flyer, I uninstalled 2020 and haven't gone back.  Why? -Better graphics and scenery.  2020 absolutely blew me away with being able to actually fly VFR instead of having some vague landcla

What did it get right? Performance a tad better but that's about it. It's a downgrade from 2020 imo.

You are asking that question in a thread titled 'What MSFS 2024 got right' that has plenty of positive comments?

Asobo saying that all my 2020 addons would work when they don't. Notably FSlTL, PMDG, the MD11 and E175/E195. The borked live traffic and sea traffic. Longer loading times...Need I go on?

No, please don't go on because there is thread dedicated for the points you are makeing.

Some add-ons are not yet working fully in the new SIM. How does that fact take away the upgraded features?

Slightly better?

Improved lighting, clouds, terrain resolution and added terrain features are huge upgrades!

What upgraded features? Can't see much difference. At least, not £129 worth. Look, it runs well, I looks good. But at the moment for me it is a down grade from 2020. No big deal. As long as MS don't pull the plug on Asobo because of the negativity and poor sales it'll come good in the end.

.... will be updated with native in-game support for DLSS Multi Frame Generation when GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs are launched. ....., and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are following suit in the near future.

....................

no mention of VR support so I suppose again no Frame Generation in VR. will have to wait and see how this affects shimmering on glass panels with speed and altitude tapes and what minimum fps need to be for this to work. I am sure our Capt. Piet will be the first to report back from the flight deck. 😃

Just to balance the score a bit...

A lot of folks are dumping all over Asobo right now,  But here I am, choosing to fly 2024 over 2020 which is still installed.. so what is wrong with me?

What Asobo got right IMHO is redesigning the sim to take advantage of modern multi core computers, coupled with a new lighting engine, and an on demand streaming architecture which actually works for me... even though I am limited to 75 Mbps internet speeds.

So while I wait for them to fix the bugs that bother me most,  I really enjoy taking up some airplanes that I have not flown in a while and visiting locations where I have been in real life..  Example below, Miami in the Carenado M20.

It looks amazing, and the performance is free of the occasional stutters that I still get with 2020..  Glass half full.. 🙂

Nice post Bert,

I see it takes a Canadian to write something positive about MSFS 2024, you did forget to apologize for doing so 🤣

Glad you are having a blast and nice screenshot BTW !

Exactly...  Starting @ $1999  So prices will probably climb to 2500-2800 for a GPU.  Heck almost makes me want to get an XBOX LOL...  I have to be honest with the performance of both MSFS versions with current GPU's and the price point for this it's one of the first times I have less than zero appetite to upgrade.  The biggest upgrade seeing how GPU and VRAM intensive 2024 can be that 32GB of GDDR7 could be very nice but not 2-$3000 nice...

Game Changer

The NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5090 is the most powerful GeForce GPU ever made, bringing game-changing capabilities to gamers and creators. Tackle the most advanced models and most challenging creative workloads with unprecedented AI horsepower. Game with full ray tracing and the lowest latency. The GeForce RTX 5090 is powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and equipped with 32 GB of super-fast GDDR7 memory, so you can do it all.

Starting at $1999

....and as always, there will be ‘random’ supply shortages and ‘delivery problems’, which will of course reduce availability and are already mimimum 200 bucks even higher and there will then be mad people who fall for it again and again and then order 2 because they are currently available...🤪
By the way, I got my 4090RTX for 1490,00 eur, it was already at the limit, although it doesn't hurt the budget, but it's slowly becoming a matter of principles!

But as it fits everyone, of course, but it's the same everywhere, apparently the more expensive the things are (often without justification) the more people buy them and it's not just about graphics cards - it'll be interesting to see how long that goes on!

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D , watercooled, GeForce RTX 4090, RAM 64GB Kingston Fury 6000Mhz , Fractal Design 7 XL, MSI X670 Carbon, all SSD

this needs some more optimising, unless you are satisfied with 334 fps
