January 6, 20251 yr Just to balance the score a bit... A lot of folks are dumping all over Asobo right now, But here I am, choosing to fly 2024 over 2020 which is still installed.. so what is wrong with me? What Asobo got right IMHO is redesigning the sim to take advantage of modern multi core computers, coupled with a new lighting engine, and an on demand streaming architecture which actually works for me... even though I am limited to 75 Mbps internet speeds. So while I wait for them to fix the bugs that bother me most, I really enjoy taking up some airplanes that I have not flown in a while and visiting locations where I have been in real life.. Example below, Miami in the Carenado M20. It looks amazing, and the performance is free of the occasional stutters that I still get with 2020.. Glass half full.. 🙂 Edited January 6, 20251 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
January 6, 20251 yr As a GA flyer, I uninstalled 2020 and haven't gone back. Why? -Better graphics and scenery. 2020 absolutely blew me away with being able to actually fly VFR instead of having some vague landclass data. 2024 just takes it a step further. I was flying a helicopter over LA this weekend and was just blown away by the accuracy. Just look at some of those youtube videos where people get out of the plane and walk around. It is simply stunning. Anytime I fly on a commercial airliner, I get a window seat so I can watch out the window. Seeing the world from above is just so interesting, and 2024 captures that really well. -Weather - for me the weather seems really improved. 2020 never seemed to match what I saw out my window. 2024 is far from perfect, but it is a big improvement. I even tested out our local lake effect we get here, and 2024 seems to do a really great job simulating narrow bands of severe snow. -Helicopters - Helis didn't get added in to 2020 until later on, but 2024 seems like a big improvement. I'm no real world pilot, but a real world heli pilot is impressed with the flight dynamics in 2024. I know for me, helicopters feel a lot smoother. I get that people fly different types of planes and have different wants and needs. I haven't flown anything faster than the Vision Jet. Low and slow is so much fun, and really shows off this sim. It is worth mentioning that I bought myself a new gaming PC for Black Friday 2024, and I have great internet (500/500 fiber). I know 2024 did not run well at all on my old PC. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
January 6, 20251 yr Same experience here. I still have 2020 installed but haven't flow it once since 2024 came out. Reasons: I like new stuff. I really like VFR low and slow in 2024. I really like the parts that work well. My performance is much, much better in 2024 and relieved I don't have to upgrade to use 2024 too. For me, it (2024) is just a much better experience. January 6, 20251 yr My only issue in 2024 is not being able too use the EFB in VR, thats it. Its annoying, but since in 2020 I didnt have an EFB so it’s not really a big deal. Flying the A2A commanche only so that could also be a reason I dont have much issues… Just love 2024, still have a stripped down 2020 install but havent touched it since 20th of november. Lets see how long the positivity in this thread last, lol
January 6, 20251 yr Glad to see this post to help show 2024 is not all doom and gloom! I’m simming 90% in 2024 for many of the reasons listed above, going back to 2020 only when I really feel the need to fly a PMDG aircraft or the iFly MAX. A little detail I noticed in 2024 the other day is the twinkling ground light effect that is normally the result of ground lights being viewed through a moving tree canopy that gives the impression of the lights twinkling from above. A very cool detail. January 6, 20251 yr I want to add another reason I prefer 2024. PAPI lights and ILS alignment: I can see the PAPI lights beyond 1 SM. In 2020, I could not see the PAPI lights until I was close to landing (<2 miles or so). Seeing the PAPI out to 5-10 miles is how it's supposed to work. Hurrah. The ILS system seems to always align with the runway. I haven't tested all airports (Cpt. Obvious speaking here) but the ones I have seem to be close to perfect. Stutters at 50 feet (or so): In 2020, I would usually get a few missed beats while flaring to land. I guess this was the simulator switching in some code to calculate ground effect and what-knot. Annoying, but nothing's perfect. In 2024, I can't say I've seen this happen. Frames are consistent all the way down. The counter to this is the performance at big airports is not good at times and can really disrupt mah flow. January 6, 20251 yr It’s just so much better at representing the overall experience of flight in our world. There are many elements to how it does that, but (for me) that’s what it boils down to. January 6, 20251 yr So about the same here. After initial difficulties and experimenting around (loading times, stutters etc.), similar bugs as in MSFS2020 - I have to say and I hope it stays that way - I've ironed out pretty much everything that annoyed me. Loading time tip: Switch off FPS limitation when loading and then switch it on again in the main menu (Riva Tuner - can be done) Switch off ReShade and Nvidia Filters during loading (I know it's a bit annoying and shouldn't really be - but it always helps). As a result, normal loading times despite full community folder. Took out my 32GB RAMS (the slow ones, previously a total of 96GB, 2 kits each but with different speeds) and only left the 64 GB (6400) in, reset BIOS and set again - moved MSFS2024 from the 3rd SSD back to the C:\"Standard-installtion-folder" hard drive and now suddenly have absolutely no stutters, almost everything on Ultra, 3x32’ screens. With BeyondATC + Traffic (AIG + FSLTL Liveries), Fenix, several existing addon airports (many basically compatible) and as I said, suddenly a full utilisation of the graphics card and no stutters, even in EHAM at full load, textures sharp - either they have turned something on the server or it is coincidence ! January 6, 20251 yr What did it get right? Performance a tad better but that's about it. It's a downgrade from 2020 imo.

January 6, 20251 yr Performance on FS2024 is completely random. It changes from week to week, from day to day, from second to second. That doesn't stop me from doing many flights with FS2024 with the A330 and the masterful Fenix, BeyondATC, Active Sky, FSLT traffic . For me, computer servers are the primary cause of all this imbalance. Not forgetting that it is better to have the best in computer equipment as well.It helps. FS2024 / A330 / Active Sky (
January 6, 20251 yr I have many gripes (MANY), but the reality is I am only flying 2024 in VR and still gobsmacked by how good it looks and feels. I've flow around the American west/southwest the last few days and really can't get enough. Flying in and out of storms has been wonderful, too; the weather and clouds have looked marvelous, even in VR! I'll save my gripes for a different thread! (or none at all as it doesn't really make me feel better, anyway).
