Active Sky

Featured Replies

Do you all feel that Active Sky does a good job representing Live Weather?  I did a flight today departing KORD and though while it is snowing a little, AS had it with 0 vis and very hard snow.  I just wanted to see if maybe I had it set up incorrectly or if the weather depiction in the sim / AS isn't that great.  Thanks

Thanks for review - I actually was never a fan but appreciate offerings

Review?  I was looking to see if people had the same experience as me in 2024.  Sorry for the confusion!

No issue I was thinking of buying active sky but really didnt think it would be much better than 2024 weather - its pretty good - I commented because I was just thinking about this purchase - I know its not a review - I mis spoke

I can't fly without it, it's so diverse and much more accurate than FS. It's day and night. Should we still write pages about this? FS weather is only visual,It's beautiful but not more than that. FS24 weather problem today in its current state. Clouds too low, fog everywhere...

All good... I would say that for the most part i've enjoyed it.  It's just the last few flights haven't depicted what I should have seen.  Usually happens with precipitation.  I just wasn't sure if it was an Asobo thing, an Active Sky thing, or user error!

Nah not user error 🙂 do you find it visually better - water on the ground disappear to fast ? things like that - just wondering the advantage over Asobo weather

Well ... I live in NZ - so Southern hemisphere - and MSFS (all flavours, but not fixed in 2024) Live Weather gets it wrong most of the time. It's as if it keeps reverting back to Northern hemisphere time/weather. It's mid-summer down here (and hot!) yet 2024 insists on covering NZMF in snow. Ugh.

Anyway .. I find that, in most cases, Active Sky makes a much better job of it.

Water seems to stay on the ground longer than default from what I can tell.   I think the advantage would be more cloud layers, different turbulence, etc.  I've used AS since PS3 and found it to be great.  Just recently in 2024, I've found the precipitation to be lacking for some reason.  But like i said, that might not be an Active Sky thing.  For example, in the Fenix, I never get any windshield effects so it makes rain / snow appear as though it is just artifacts floating in the sky.  Could be a setting too i guess.

Storm depiction in NOVA today was just perfect in the historical mode. Just finished KMSP - KDCA with AS and Fenix

Asobo issue sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't - thanks

I exclusively fly with AS:

- better cloud layer depiction

- more cloud variety

- better cloud turbulences

- better/real snow coverage

- better lake ice coverage

If I compare it with real live weather in my area (Northern Canada) it almost always gets the weather pretty close to real life, especially the cloud coverage....

I heard one of the drawbacks to AS is the transition from different weather fronts is abrupt. Not a smooth transition. Don't know for sure, haven't tried AS.

Not if it is adjusted properly. I fly with it all the time and I never see abrupt transitions.

Might have to give it a go, sometime. Thanks for that.
