New Version of Lossless Scaling

Featured Replies

Do any of you use Lossless scaling with their RTX 40XX series card? I notice when stacking FG, so in-game FG + Lossless FG quite some latency. When I disable the in-game FG and only use Lossless Scaling there is less noticable latencty.

I did set ingame FG on, RTSS to 60 FPS front sync edge, LSC to x2 Gsync on + hdr. Which gives me then 120 fps which matches my tv of 120hz. Runs smooth only the latency..

In practise the minimum base of 30 fps seems to be a bit of a myth for me at least. I can run the sim at 20 fps and either double or treble that rate with lossless scaling and it still works absolutel

  • I switched it on today in the PMDG 777, at KATL, my FPS was around 24 at the airport, and with it on I got around 45 fps, and smooth.

Decided to make a video of my descent and landing last night just to show how smooth FS is on my system using Lossless.

I mean for me this is about as crisp and smooth as I have ever seen FS.  This is running at 5K on a 49 inch ultrawide G-Sync compatible monitor with DLSS and Frame Generation on in sim and Lossless at 3X to guarantee I maintain 120FPS to match the monitors refresh.

TLOD is 355, OLOD is 175 just about everything at Ultra.

I made the video with my phone so forgive the quality, this was before I realized XBox Game Bar has a built in video recorder LOL  The sound actually came out pretty darn good.  Turn your speakers up for the landing 🙂

Thank you so much sir, especially coming from you!!  I always get inspired to build a proper enclosure and cockpit setup when I see your videos!!

2020 with everything maxed out, pretty aggressive TLOD/OLOD and Lossless scaling combined with my HW makes for a VERY immersive experience still!!

Hello all, I made a lossless settings guide over at the XP12 forums if anyone wants to look at it, I know its aimed at XP12 but  the settings within lossless scaling should apply to MSFS as well, just obviously ignore the XP settings part.

I have seen a few misconceptions regarding lossless in this thread.

1.) Multi monitor mode will allow lossless to retain focus and keep generating frames for you even when you are using windows on another monitor.

2.) Lossless obviously works better with a higher base frame rate, however, you could probably get away with 30, 40 would be preferred. Make sure you CAP your frame rate to 30/40 or whatever minimum you can achieve, you want frame pacing to be really good so that lossless can do its magic. Uneven frame pacing causes more artifacts. For best overall experience, locking the game frame rate is recommended. This helps to avoid 100% GPU load (reducing its impact on latency) and ensures smoother frame pacing.

3.) Input lag?, the best way to eliminate it is to turn off V-Sync in game AND in losless AND in Nvidia control panel for THIS game only.  Screen tearing then? Not if you have your frame rate capped. For example 120 hz display, with G-Sync enabled. Cap your frames to 38 (using RTSS or whatever you prefer). 38x 3 (if you are using lossless frame gen X3) = 114. This allows a little head room incase of frame spikes, and will ensure you never go above 120hz, eliminating input lag and screen tearing.

You can change this depending on your monitor. 60 hz? Lock frames to 29. 29X2 = 58, gives you 2FPS headroom below the 60hz limit. Then set frame gen X2 mode.

There are lots of combinations depending on your monitor and frames generated, X2,X3,X4 etc...

4.) Resolution scale = Set this at 50%.

For higher resolution, use at higher than recommended frame rates or use the "Resolution Scale" option to downscale input to 1080p:
For 1440p, set it to 75%.
For 4K, set it to 50%.

Just tried the latest at 60hz 4k

X2 znd still getting freezes and locks while panning.

@Ianrivaldosmith,

What a helpful post! Many thanks. I was on the point of giving up with LS because of the jitters when the sim couldn't deliver the required fps of 60 despite moderate settings in the sim.

I took your advice and changed my maximum fps from 20 to 29. With a 60Hz monitor I used x3 previously but the jitters would start when turning on the ground even with VSync disabled. The LS display showed 20/59 showing 60 couldn't be achieved.

By including a buffer that problem has gone away. I now have 29/58 using X2 and it stays that way consistently. The other setting of 500 for Resolution Scale is also helping. Positioned at my heavy airports the GPU hits 90%+ showing it's working hard. That's why we have powerful cards eh?

I should add I'm using P3D but as you point out this app works for all sims.

I really think you should publish this as a Tip and Trick in both the 2020/2024 and XP forums. If you could add it to the P3D one that would be appreciated too.

Well done once again. Welcome back!

How do I do that?

No worries, I was reading here but noticed a lot of people using this tool incorrectly, so hopefully this helps a lot out now.

It is probably because you were generating more frames than your screen could handle, therefore what happens is you create a frame pacing issue, which comes across as like you say jitters, or stutters... It can also jitter if you cant make the required frames, although that creates more artefacts than jitters.

Glad its working as intended now though 🙂

Go to the T&T forums and create a normal post giving it a meaningful title.

Add all the steps required as per your post. Once it's published mods will lock the topic so it's used only as a reference and not for debate.

Can you elaborate this? Why should we use resolution scale? I understood that this setting is basically just the downscale option of LS, if you do not want any scaling, keep it off. Was I mistaken?

Thank you! What about in-game FG setting for RTX 40XX series and Low Latency mode in NVCP?

Yes, sorry my setup guide over at the XP12 forum includes pics, but yes in the Nvidia control panel select Ultra for low latency mode. And I imagine running the in-game frame gen mode is pointless at the same time as this app, although I may be wrong. But I suspect it's better to either use this, or use the in-game mode. Not both at once.

This feature allows input frames to be processed at a reduced resolution while generating output at the original resolution. For example, when playing at 1440p, setting the scale to 50% enables LSFG to generate 1440p output from a 720p input. This provides a performance boost with only a minor quality trade-off (depending on the game). Note that this is not related to image scaling; rather, it reduces the amount of information available to LSFG for motion estimation.

So, that is why at 4K, it's best to set it to 50%, it will generate the frames at 1080p, which it was designed to do, and output them at 4K.

This feature should probably renamed, people confuse it with image scaling using FSR etc... That is a different setting, I personally leave that off.

Ok, THAT is an interesting piece of information, thank you! Because it might actually help with the biggest LS issue I have: VRAM. It might help to avoid those additional 1-2GB of VRAM LS "eats" up as soon as I activate it on my rig using 4K but no scaling.
