New Version of Lossless Scaling

Featured Replies

Using an earlier version of Lossless Scaling, I too had problems moving my mouse to the 2nd screen. I found a forum thread on Steam which helped. It said to do this:

"Add LosslessScaling.exe to NVIDIA control panel / app then change "Vulkan/OpenGL present method" to "Prefer layer on DXGI Swapchain"

I have noticed that in the new GUI for the latest version of Lossless Scaling, there is a "Multi-display Mode" switch, which I have set to "On"

This seems to have removed the need for the NVIDIA Control Panel entry I mentioned above and I can still move my mouse freely between both screens and access BATC on the 2nd.

Thanks for the tip guys. It worked great here!
Updating this topic...I found a problem when I change screen and click on the second monitor (and the first one loses focus) it remains active but the frame number increases to 400 fps but it starts to show a lot of stutters

In practise the minimum base of 30 fps seems to be a bit of a myth for me at least. I can run the sim at 20 fps and either double or treble that rate with lossless scaling and it still works absolutel

  • I switched it on today in the PMDG 777, at KATL, my FPS was around 24 at the airport, and with it on I got around 45 fps, and smooth.

Hello all, I made a lossless settings guide over at the XP12 forums if anyone wants to look at it, I know its aimed at XP12 but  the settings within lossless scaling should apply to MSFS as well, just

Yes. It was given as the fix for not being able to move the mouse cursor from the FS2020/FS2024 window to a 2nd monitor while Lossless Scaling was running.

Up to v2.11 no Issues with omving the mouse cursor to the second screen.

Only this latest version has this behavior.

Multi display On like with earlier versions.

It seems you need to have at least a steady base fps of 30, preferably 40 and best would be 60. Well, now, if you have a stead 30, 40 or let alone 60... why would you need this program for then...? With flight simming 40 or 60 is great already. Seems this app is mainly there for fps-junkies?

In practise the minimum base of 30 fps seems to be a bit of a myth for me at least. I can run the sim at 20 fps and either double or treble that rate with lossless scaling and it still works absolutely fine. Minimum 30 fps is probably better but not essential. I don't run LS for the sake of unnecessary fps. It really does smooth things out with virtually no artefacts.

So my only concern about trying this ap initially was the visual issues but I learned that enabling multi monitor should allow me to open Firefox, Active Sky, or BATC without any issues. Am I correct?

Also, I don't even have Steam installed and I'd like just to download the LS ap and never open Steam. I read that this is also possible. How?

That's awesome!

MSFS

Gave it a try. FPS was indeed doubled but performance felt the exact same, perhaps a bit sluggish. I then upped a few settings to see if I could keep a certain fps with more graphic goodies but that resulted in a stuttering and sluggish mess. I did change various settings to solve it but decided it isn't worth it for me: I am happy with my 'raw' performance and my Gsync monitor and hate tweaking so... I'll leave it at this. Not my kind of addon.

The freezing is back. I really don't understand why. Have not changed anything.

Say la vie as we say.

When it works its great. At least 99% of the time I can switch it off without loosing my flight.

I experience this on a different sim (P3Dv5) but with a moving map on a networked computer the aircraft is still moving.

Just toggle the app off/on to cure it. Works every time for me when it happens. Not on every flight.

Someone mentioned VRAM saturation as the possible cause. I am on a 4090 so i have only experience this once and it was turning into the gate at KMIA not on approach fortunately and as @Ray Proudfoot suggested I just unscaled/rescaled with the button in the app and it was fine but wonder if cards with less memory are running into an issue.

Are you using 3.0 or 2.3 scaling?

3.0.  No big deal, just very annoying.

I guess not because you need AT LEAST an fps of 30 to use this app with any result.

I've been using the previous version with my laptop at framerates as low as 20 FPS. That, and 3x FG its a godsend in my 60 Hz laptop display. In my main rig, I tend to lock my FPS to 30 (using RTSS) and then apply 4xFG so that they match my 120 Hz display. However, I have some heavy airports in both MSFS2020 and P3Dv5 which can't keep a stable 30 FPS. Now I've just tried with 24 FPS and it feels even more smooth (since I already have the zero frametime variation Noel has been talking about all this time).

I only may need to get used to slower control response: even with airliners, it doesn't feel the same flying at 30x4 FPS than 24x5 or 20x6 FPS. Not if I consider I've been locking my sims at 30 FPS for the last 5 years.

My steam client boots up automatically when I start up the computer. And the client becomes an icon on the taskbar. Automatically. So let's say an hour later I want to stop doing whatever and instead fly MSFS2024.

I just click on the steam client icon, on Library, on the LS icon, and on the - icon to close the Steam client back down to the taskbar. All of this takes about 7 or 8 seconds total. And then wait about 3 minutes for 2024 to fully load.

I've found that you can run the Lossless Scaling executable without having to run Steam at all. I have a link to it pinned to my Task Bar.

In my case, the executable was here   D:\steam\steamapps\common\lossless scaling\losslessscaling.exe.
