Looking at this chart the 4090 seems a better choice if you are going for raw power and forget about FG and AI.
January 14, 20251 yr even the 5090's raw raster, non CUDA core based performance is expected to be only 30% higher than the 4090, which I expect to boil down to only 15-20% fps in-game increase in MSFS. again, MSFS is not Cyberpunk with path tracing and what have you. between 5080 and 4090: clock speeds are similar, memory and number of CUDA cores are 50% higher on the 4090. 2.5 GHz clock speeds seem to have reached the limit now using current chip technology and structures. I think Nvidia can only increase the AI and CUDA core performance. lets wait until January 31st when the 5090 benchmark NDAs fall. January 14, 20251 yr unfortunately. but people already complain about scenery designer efforts "wasted" on detailed terminal interior when ATC and AI are still lacking. where future GPUs could really shine is once their AI technology is "ab"-used to generate plausible AI traffic, instead of only AI based characters or opponents. January 14, 20251 yr I never removed MSFS2020 from my system. I really want MSFS2024 to be my "fly or die" but the low bandwidth issue is a buzz kill. Even with an ethernet cable, my ability to get past this is negligible. But...I'm patient Brian MacMillan Intel Core i9 14900KF/64GB RAM/RTX 4080 Super/LG ULTRAWIDE (3440x1440@100Hz)
January 14, 20251 yr I see the title of this and think, what is this "we" stuff about putting MFS 2020 back on our hard drive? Like it has to be a group decision or a protest statement instead of just the personal preference it already is? Are we all gonna have to start going to the ladies room together to go pee after this? 😁 "That's what" - She

January 14, 20251 yr Meh. I've kept 2020 knowing 2024 would have some uh...things happen. So far, I basically fly 2020 vs 2024. Me using 2024 is rare. January 14, 20251 yr I love FG because when using Track IR the buttery good smoothness (or lackthereof if using heavy settings lol) is soooooo noticable. After seeing vram usage in 2024 I wish Nvidia would have done 24 GB for the 5080. Getting tht 5090 would be a good idea for the unoptimized 2024 haha. Maybe they'll work on it. Most flights in 2024 peg my vram especially if using third party airports.
