You been telling us this since 2024's release, we get it you don't like it. Seems like you're quite stubborn about it and trying to convince others to do the same and abandon 2024!

There are some problems with 2024 for sure but it does work quite well in many respects. It is in the same state 2020 was in when it released. Give the developers a few months to issue some updates and it will be on par with 2020!

As for this post and what the future holds it really doesn't matter today. It is a game as many don't want to admit but the OP definitely is comparing to other "games" in the gaming world.

Hard Core flight simulation/gaming is most likely a very small subset of people using MSFS2020 or MSFS2024!

No I genuinely don’t care if people use 2024 or 2020 as to each their own.  My only point in even replying to this thread was that the direction this sim is going down is strange and seems to not really be working either from a technical standpoint or from a user standpoint.  I’m happy to use 2020 now and will be happy to use 24 once it’s actually worth using.

Same here, when 2024 is worth moving to, I will make the switch, not before.

I spent a year away, and just recently came back, and it’s that bad it drove me back to XP, just to have a working core without frustrations.

He said 'Jehovah' 😁.

But seriously ... we have seen (e.g.) in motorsports that the 'big players' - I mean car manufacturers - come and go (see Le Mans - Peugeot, Porsche, Audi, Lancia, Mercedes, Toyota, ...), F1 (Honda, Lamborghini, Renault, BMW, Mercedes, Peugeot, Toyota, ...), Rallye (Lancia, Subaru, Audi, Peugeot, Toyota, ...), whereas the people/teams who are REALLY interested in the subject stay for decades. Even if they don't have the huge success - it's their PASSION.

And as described in this thread ... MS didn't pull the plug only once ...

I also think that releasing the MSFS2024 as stand-alone version with full streaming and not as an big update for MSFS2020 was the absolutely wrong decision. More workload for all addon devs, splitted community, re-introduction of already fixed/workarounded bugs, new bugs etc. basically corrupted a community constantly growing over the last four years prior release of MSFS2024.

To me, it was sadly a big step in the completely wrong direction...

I don’t really buy the split community or wrong direction doom mongering. There are so many people on this forum and the official forums with a history of some very angry criticisms of the product and some quite vindictive attacks on the people behind it who are clearly still using it. My guess is the trust which many others who don’t want to use it say they’ve lost will be very quickly restored after a couple of patches and it’ll really take off. As with a lot of gaming / simming communities I’ve been involved with, there’s no lack of fickle, temperamental users in this one.

Yup- and again back to the original point- that’s why 2024’s numbers are not to the levels they probably want.  The additions they gave are just not substantial enough.

Na, the numbers are not as high as they could be simply because of the bugs and stability of the sim. The additions and changes are quite substantial for many of us, and many users thought so given the initial rush to pre-purchase the sim or buy on day one. The add-on devs were of the same mindset too when they initially planned to develop for 2024 only.

The current situation of reduced 2024 usage numbers and the add-on devs mostly deciding to develop for both 2020 and 2024 are due to 2024's current state of quality and bugs. Once that situation improves over the next couple of SUs, then the numbers are going to change to push 2024 usage over 2020... and none of this is something unique, usual way things pan out when large complex software/games are released with initial release quality not being as good.

What baffles me is that the community cried for decades for a sim that wasn't bottlenecked by the main thread.

So now they have it it is no longer important??

Best feature of MSFS 2024 IMO.

It’s quite stunning how many things traditionally held up as important for flight sims to have / do that 2024 has / does are dismissed because of what seem to be quite minor bugs. Yes, there are a lot of bugs and collectively they do damage the experience at times, but overlooking all the good stuff, the big stuff, because you can’t see the nav lights in day time in external cameras just doesn’t make sense to me.

The big one for me is flight model; most users agree it’s much improved over 2020 and really quite good now, but so many “”””hardcore simmers”””” don’t seem to pay it any attention at all.

To me it’s more the fact that it stutters due to the sever load. I have an high end system, setup perfectly. Some days it stutters in a location, then other days it doesn’t in the exact same location. How do you get around that? You can’t. Objects literally pop in front of you when taxiing/taking off/landing. The LOD level is shocking. The AI traffic is even worse than it was in 2020. The road traffic is comical. Photogrammetry is diabolical as are the trees. Blobs mixing in with the new 3D trees looks awful. For me personally, it spoils the immersion. I’m aware it won’t for everyone, and I wish I could look past it like some people do. I know it does a lot of things better too, and I will try it again after a few service updates, but at the minute it’s just a total frustration due to the amount of bugs it contains. For me it is the ‘I’ll pretend I didn’t see that’ sim.

Have a couple of good Martinis, then fly, and you probably won't notice all the bugs and glitches. 😉

I had a couple after I spent over £100 on it and realised it was like alpha software ha!

Do you have dynamic FPS on?

So!!! What do you prefer? "VHS tapes" which SIMPLY WORK out of the box or "4K with all the bells and whistles" which don't work well on so many systems? Serious question ...
