I find MSFS 2020 totally usable (and I suspect 2024 also), and much better than other currently existing sims as long as cached locations and items purchased on the Marketplace are also made available offline. Photogrammetry is not the same as photoscenery. I do not use photogrammetry, but I certainly could not do without the Bing aerial imagery. You been telling us this since 2024's release, we get it you don't like it. Seems like you're quite stubborn about it and trying to convince others to do the same and abandon 2024! There are some problems with 2024 for sure but it does work quite well in many respects. It is in the same state 2020 was in when it released. Give the developers a few months to issue some updates and it will be on par with 2020! As for this post and what the future holds it really doesn't matter today. It is a game as many don't want to admit but the OP definitely is comparing to other "games" in the gaming world. Hard Core flight simulation/gaming is most likely a very small subset of people using MSFS2020 or MSFS2024!

Plug the LAN cable or switch of WLAN 😉 On a more serious note: if I am not mistaken, at least in MSFS2020 you have a setting where you can turn off aerials. It is called "Bing Data World Graphics" under the "Data" tab in settings. Guess the same setting exists in MSFS2024. Genuine question - I can't recall - was AVSIM able to reconstitute ALL the FSX forum posts after it notoriously got sabotaged a while back? I have a feeling that some went missing, because I can't find all of my chats with Nick Needham of late lamented memory - but I chatted with him in more than one place so I could be wrong. I believe career mode was their effort but that’s just been poorly to terribly done and I suspect that’s going to be the Achilles heel of this release. If they can’t fix that and or are not willing to open it up to 3rd party- far better aircraft— it’s going to be dead. The soul and purpose of the franchise emerged in 1982. It introduced thousands of people to the immersion of flight on the home computer and continues to do so with the career mode relating to defined purpose. New technology is not perfect and requires tuning with time. Latest video at The Flight Level Flight Over Frozen Lake Erie - Between Ice and Clouds - Ultimate Solitude - The Perfect Memory

I don't think so as they lost my original profile in the attack, so I assume they must have lost a bunch of other stuff too?

January 23, 20251 yr Great OP post. The only reason I worry about FS2024's future is I'm not sure I'll get my $200 money's worth. 3-4 years until full play-ability again? Then what? The server shutoff support date is critical.

January 23, 20251 yr Those figures look shockingly low to me, but maybe it is just a bad day. As for market place, there are surely only so many addons that the average person feels able to fork out $$$ on before they get tired of searching for the holy grail of whatever they are looking for. I personally do not need more than around 5-8 aircraft (most of which I can tweak privately): a couple of GA types, a good glider, a couple of airliners and perhaps a chopper. It's far better to have one or two types that you feel comfortable with rather than an obsessive need for something new every week. Surely with the very poor numbers reported, whatever people here think about FS2024 vs 2020, it looks like the initial disasters have resulted in a savage lack of enthusiasm for FS2024 outside of hard core supporters. Maybe things will improve if MS allows downloads of one's favourite aircraft so as to offer the option between streaming and local storage.
