This convinced me that MSFS is more than just a game

Very impressive. This sort of thing is the only time I ever "get" the idea of actually "flying" (piloting) in a flightsim. If I ever get adopted by Elon Musk I might spend some of my new pocket money on having one of these built in the garage.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I'm so envious of people who do this, I've thought of doing something similar but a bit more generic, I think the main downside is that he can only really fly a 737, and there's so many options in MSFS, even if you only want to fly airliners.

Personally I'm not. I used to be. But since VR there is no reason to feel that way any longer.

It may not give you a physical representation that you can touch, but it also does not limit you to one airframe. And it is much cheaper.

its still a game and always will be

Here they come.  I wonder why certain people get ruffled by the word simulator?

CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D  RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090

To be fair this is a lot of what the real world sims are about.  The HW replication of the real thing.  It's about muscle memory, understanding the layout etc however I can absolutely say FS can be tremendously helpful for procedural training, especially with an unknown airfield.

Just that little bit of familiarity and being aware of the procedures before flying into a brand new airport should be tremendously useful even with a desktop sim.

This is similar to a racing sim.  The value with an unknown track is immeasurable.  To be able to do thousands of laps before ever turning one on the pavement is an incredible asset.  The time to get up to speed when you've done sim work prior can be just a few laps.  You already know the lines, braking points, curbing, visual references, pit entry, it takes 3 days that we used to do at the track prior and condenses that to a matter of hours.

Quite honestly, if you can be fast in a sim "without" the feel of the butt sensation it also translates to when you "do" get the feel of the butt...

The value of sims can't be understated whether you call it a game or not.

The setup in the video is incredible any way you cut it LOL

Sorry I don't get it.

Surely it would work out cheaper to do the real thing. And save his marriage 😉

You can hire aircraft and experience the real joy of flying even if you're not a qualified Pilot.

MS2024 is a game. With pretty pictures.

still too frustrating of an experience IMO

The eagerness by some to keep downplaying MSFS (2020 or 2024) as just a game with pretty pictures, etc is comical 🤣. If MSFS is just a game then so are all other sims, no matter how desperately some try to cast their pet sim as something Serious ™️ while others are not.

If the first thought you have is how much this would cost .... then chances are you probably can't afford it. And that includes the time spent to build it.

He built this in his kitchen!?? 😵

That is very very cool, amazing to see how someone created something so fantastic for what is ultimately a game on a computer. Puts my dedicated Sim Rigs for my games to shame that's for sure, but then I love all types of Games including Flight Simulator Games, yay for Gaming!

I can beat your attempt at including the word game in a single paragraph.

That GAME is a very, very cool GAME, amazing to see how someone used a GAME to create something so GAMEY for what is ultimately a GAME on a GAMING computer. Puts my dedicated GAMING RIG for my GAMES to shame that's for sure, but I love all sorts of GAMES including Flight GAMEY GAMES, yay for GAMING!

However, I think it much better to state, 'MSFS Flight Simulator is quite capable of enabling a very complex and realistic simulator to be created by the home user, that in many ways replicates how real pilots train - even to the extent of using real world navigation data and checklists'.

I agree 100%. It really looks like some are trying to force themselves to write as many times the word game and avoid talking about a sim as if it would hurt them, although everyone knows that it is both. But the best I have seen, was a guy asking a question in a forum starting with: « when I play the PMDG 737, I have an issue with…. ». The poor guy was literally playing an aircraft 😂

The fact people still get so bent out of shape over a word is funny.

Call it whatever the heck you like who cares.  Use it for whatever the heck you like, who cares, the lengths people go to defend anything 2024 related is comical.

For some it's a game, for some it's a sim, it's designed to appeal to both, sell on PC's and Console's used with an XBox controller or a full cockpit, flown from inside the cockpit or the top of the tail rudder.

I play 2020 and use it as a simulator LOL

It is also quite funny that some people see excitement, awe, amazement and enjoyment as a defence for a product.

There is the point.  Johnny flying into buildings and crashing into water buffalo on his console, is playing a game.  The guy with the full cockpit in his house is flying a simulator.  What would you describe a level D sim doing a loop in a 737 - a game?

Post that MSFS is just a game with pretty pictures, and you deserve what you get.
