The obsession of fps

Your not obsessed with it because your hardware isn't capable of it.  when you next upgrade and can achieve 120fps, I bet you won't stay with 50-60.

Yes like I told, but not obsessed, before, meanwhile or after, like normal upgrading PCs, if not you can use a 1996 PC with very low graphics and 75 fps. And I doubt much 120fps in VR in the next 10 years of hardware market releases.

Man after my own heart. But you're wasting your time. People, and they won't be posting on here, will still swear blind they can see the difference between 100fps and 110fps. Leave 'em to it mate. 😁

Interesting you say 'until you panned', users of trackIR are always panning on final, even small movements. And I wonder how this will play out with the new physics based camera that is coming out soo

  • Older eyes notice things less. The younger you are, the more you will notice the difference between 45 fps and 75 fps (for example).  I’m 42 and have played competitive counter strike back in my

The increase in fluidity I get at 120fps is a joy to behold and increases my enjoyment of the sim no end.

That's the main thing in this hobby, increasing our enjoyment.  I certainly can and have done 120FPS-fg and once again the real difference is paltry to me.  The Oracle:

Conclusion

Locking the frame rate (say, at 60 FPS instead of 120+) can save you ~30% in power consumption during a 3-hour session. The absolute savings may not be massive in dollar terms, but reducing power draw can help with heat and longevity of components.

But if you've increased your simjoyment to no end well then what the hey what's a few more kWh 👍

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Since we are talking about a hobby (I'm pretty sure) we all can play with FPS the way we want.

Personally, I use it as a optimization tool when I'm not cruzin at 60fps.

Never did the 30fps thing so no VSync until MSFS 2024 @ 60fps.

I don’t really care about some (not all) users obsession with FPS … to each his or her own … unfortunately that obsession has resulted in junk from nVidia called the 5080/5090:

1.  They can’t deliver supply (except to scalpers)

2.  They can’t provide a reliable power specification with many reports of melted cables and damaged GPUs and PSU

3.  They can’t provide all the working ROPS advertised (168 instead of 176) so some cards operate 10% or more lower

4.  They can’t provide significant increases in “actual frames” not fake ones (aka DLSS)

This is what we get stuck with when FPS is the only metric of a GPU that consumers care about.

EDIT: nVidia report 28% sales to Singapore, yet Singapore customs said they only saw 1% of that?

The AVSIM forum is the most... bizarre community I've encountered in more than 25 years of Internet.

No matter how big is the billion $ corporation or how blatant are their fails, it is always the customers' fault.

Ok, doesn't mean you are not trying to increase it.

Tuning the sim includes increasing FPS whether you look at the numbers or not.  Your perception of smoothness and realism will include increasing FPS.

I never said otherwise, I simply said I never look at the numbers.

Im not in your competiton to see who is right and wrong on every subject

There will be many new simmers, who may read that you do not look at the numbers, who do not realise they ARE changing the FPS, albeit without looking at a figure.  Information that FPS is being changed could be useful to them.

There is no right or wrong with discussing fps/smoothness, just useful information,  so your competition comment is baffling.

Yeah, I meant related to a videogame 😄

I think that most of that stuff is now scattered between Reddit and the dark web.
